Data Analytics Intern (Part-Time, Remote)
Organization
Family Independence Initiative (FII) trusts and invests directly in low-income families across the nation so they can work individually and collectively to achieve prosperity. We do this by providing families with our technology platform, UpTogether, that they use to strengthen existing and create new social networks, access financial capital and incentives, set goals and monitor progress, and support one another in achieving mobility.
We believe that putting dollars directly in the hands of families so they can direct investments to their innate initiative will allow them to achieve wellbeing for themselves and their communities.
Using the rich strength-based data and stories of our families' progress, we invite low income residents, foundations, the media, policymakers, and others across the U.S. to collectively re-think our social and economic systems to one that fortifies social connections, invests in initiative, and honors self-determination.
Internship Description
We are looking for someone to work on our analytics team. In a given week you may be working on a report looking at family outcomes in a particular area of interest, or improving one of our R Shiny apps, adding to or creating an R package, or analyzing the Initiative Score, our working alternative to the FICO score. This can often be an iterative process that may involve some wide data exploration that narrows down around a few particularly salient findings or a compelling narrative.
Ideal Candidate
We're looking for someone who's interested in working on poverty and inequality from a lens of seeing low-income families' strengths and trusting in their own decisions. We're an all-remote workplace and a pretty small team, so also need someone who works well independently but also wants to be an active part of a team that's looking for ideas from everyone.
We are happy to work with the right candidate to train up on some of these skills, but we do need someone with some R and statistics knowledge, in addition to a personal interest or connection to FII's mission. Econometrics, Python, strong writing, strong data visualization skills, UX experience are a plus.
Compensation & Hours
The position pays $15/hour, about 10 hours per week during the school year, and could be full time hours into summer. We'd like to find someone who can continue through next school year if possible. If you're not available now but could be available for the summer and next school year, we're open to discussing that as well.
Apply
Please submit resume and a cover letter about why you are applying for this position with the subject line "Internship" to lauren at fii.org. Applications are being accepted on a rolling basis.
