Campaign for Accountability (CfA), a non-profit government watchdog organization focused on public accountability, is seeking an executive director to oversee the organization's day to day activities.

CfA is a small nonprofit dedicated to uncovering ethical problems and malfeasance in public life. CfA investigates federal and state officials, anti-choice groups, and large technology companies. CfA projects include the Google Transparency Project, which investigates the political influence of large platform companies, and the Themis Project, which investigates the anti-choice movement. The Ideal Candidate
This position is a unique opportunity for an experienced lawyer or policy expert to oversee CfA's accountability efforts. The executive director oversees CfA's legal actions, press communications, administrative functions, and interactions with outside organizations. The ideal candidate will either be an attorney or have deep familiarity with the law and have established contacts in the media and on Capitol Hill. CfA seeks candidates that have experience in some combination of technology policy, ethics issues, government transparency, and reproductive rights. The ideal candidate will have experience making open records requests, knowledge of federal ethics laws, and familiarity with lobbying and campaign finance regulations.
The position is located in Washington, DC.
Essential Responsibilities
· Draft CfA's core legal products, including:
o Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) requests;
o State open records requests;
o Requests for investigations;
o Letters to federal officials;
o Investigative reports;
o Op eds.
· Supervise all of CfA's written materials, including website content, press releases, newsletters, social media posts, and communications with CfA's donors.
· Manage and help conduct CfA's litigation, including legal and factual research, drafting complaints and briefs, and reviewing the work of outside counsel.
· Serve as CfA's primary spokesperson to media outlets and maintain relationships with journalists.
· Conceive of and manage the execution of long-term research projects to investigate new areas of unethical conduct.
· Oversee all financial, operational, and administrative functions, working in tandem with CfA's CFO.
· Represent CfA in all external relationships including with partner organizations, investigators, and legislators.
· Monitor news developments and conduct research to spot potential legal actions.
· Recruit and maintain relationships with pro bono counsel.
· Manage CfA's staff and hire new employees when positions become vacant.
Qualifications
· 7 years of experience working in government, advocacy, journalism, or politics.
· Experience managing a team of individuals.
· Law degree or experience and familiarity with open records laws.
· Familiarity with regulatory environment pertaining to technology companies.
· Proven track record of conceiving and executing creative investigative strategies.
· Strong organizational and project-management abilities.
· Exceptional writing, research and verbal communications skills.
· High degree of professional ethics and integrity.
· Instinct to cooperate and work with others.
