Position: Director of State Tax and Budget Campaigns
Location: Washington, DC
The Center on Budget and Policy Priorities advances public policies that reduce poverty and inequality, advance prosperity and racial equity, and break down barriers to economic opportunity through research, analysis, and advocacy. A key area of work is reforming state revenue systems in order to ensure adequate and stable revenues for public investments. This work is conducted largely in concert with members of the State Priorities Partnership, a network of state policy organizations that the Center coordinates.
The Director of State Tax and Budget Campaigns develops and supports strategic public education, advocacy, and engagement campaigns to build support for the enactment and implementation of these public policies at the state level, and to counter damaging policy proposals that would increase poverty and inequity. The Director oversees a team of strategic communicators and issue campaign managers and works in close collaboration with the Center's policy experts, communications and engagement specialists, our organizational partners and allies at the state level, and national partners and allies. The Director works closely with those colleagues and partners to deploy digital, earned media, public education, and advocacy strategies to inform policy debates and secure outcomes through legislation, executive action, and ballot questions. The Director also develops and implements multi-year strategies to build long-term capacity in states, both by strengthening long-term relationships with strategic partners at the national level, and by providing training, coaching, and consulting to state partners. Finally, as a senior leader within the Center's State Fiscal Policy Division, the Director co-leads the division's outreach and campaigns team (other members of which focus on state-level campaigns to protect and expand anti-poverty programs and policies) and to help shape division-wide strategy.
Responsibilities

Collaborate closely with other leaders of the Center's State Fiscal Policy Division to develop and refine state fiscal policy advocacy and engagement strategies and workplans, and with the Center's issue experts, communications specialists, and other key staff to implement those plans and strategies.
