Position Summary:

The Director of Partnerships & Coaching for the Policy & Advocacy Team works with and supports LEE members to influence the development and implementation of education policies by identifying high-impact professional opportunities and coaching members in their pursuit of those roles.  The Director will cultivate relationships and partnerships with a portfolio of assigned federal, state and local policy and advocacy organizations. They are responsible for developing and maintaining policy partnerships; and executing on a strategy to create high-quality professional coaching and job sourcing. The Director advises and reports to the Senior Director, Policy & Advocacy Develop Team.

Position Location: Flexible, DC preferred

Travel Requirements: 40%

Responsibilities:

Career Advancement Strategy, Analysis and Partnerships (40%)

  • Collaborate with the Senior Director to inform and carry out a strategy to identify policy and advocacy career opportunities for members in various regions, including Washington, DC
  • Build and strengthen relationships with high-impact policy and advocacy organizations to source career opportunities for members (e.g., open roles, LEE fellowship hosts) and position LEE to become the most reliable source of diverse and equity-driven talent for these organizations
  • Build and strengthen relationships with high-priority external policy and advocacy fellowships to increase the number of members interested in and accepted into each program

Coaching and Events (40%)

  • Inform and execute a coaching strategy to help members in entry- or mid-level policy or advocacy roles advance into higher-impact roles
  • Organize and execute virtual and in-person networking events and career-focused panel discussions for members working and seeking to advance in the policy and advocacy sector

Data Systems & Management (10%)

  • Collaborate with others on the Policy and Advocacy team to ensure the integrity of data that measure the impact of career coaching on members' career advancement

Special Projects (10%)

  • Special duties and projects as designated by VP, Policy & Advocacy or Senior Director, Develop Team, Policy & Advocacy
 

Minimum Qualifications:

  • At least 6 years relevant professional work experience, including 3-5 years of state and/or federal policy experience leading to diverse contacts in the state and/or federal education landscape.
  • Demonstrated success in cultivating relationships with high-impact policy and advocacy leaders
  • In-depth knowledge of education policy and advocacy organization landscapes in multiple regions
  • Demonstrated familiarity with various pathways to high-level policy and advocacy roles in education policy and advocacy organizations and the understanding of necessary competencies/experiences to advance in a policy/advocacy career
  • Highly organized and able to handle multiple and competing priorities in a fast-paced environment
  • Ability to communicate and collaborate within a geographically dispersed team
  • Strong, demonstrated commitment to diversity, equity & inclusion
  • Deep passion for educational equity and belief in LEE's mission and theory of change
  • Commitment to continuous learning
  • Ability to work flexible hours with occasional weekends and evenings
  • Bachelor's degree required, advanced degree in a related field preferred

Preferred Qualifications:

  • 2+ years experience career coaching or providing feedback to adults to improve their professional practice
  • Experience working with communities of color
