THE GIG – E Street Group LLC seeks a qualified candidate to serve as a Press Associate working for our partner, Will Hailer, to deliver day-to-day press relationships on behalf of our clients to tell their narrative. We are looking for someone who understands the whole process – writing a strategic communications plan and selling it to a client, quickly building relationships with reporters, developing all pitch materials and constant pushing of the envelope to tell authentic and compelling stories that deliver results for our clients. 


Buckets of responsibility and assumptions on time (evolving over the years of business):


Vision + Troubleshooting    (Estimated percentage of time: 20%)

  • Vision – developing a strategic plan that tells an authentic, creative story for our clients and ensuring that they are bought in on the vision before executing

  • Client relationships – maintaining positive relationships with clients, flagging and troubleshooting potential issues with clients to partners or other team members and trying to find ways to maintain all client relationships


Process    (Estimated percentage of time: 20%)

  • Developing the story – from creating a communications plan, to drafting releases and op-eds to writing statements for legislative hearings to developing partner packets to elevate the story


Pitching + Relationships    (Estimated percentage of time: 50%)

  • Pitching the story – to local and national reporters and occasionally social media influencers to get stories placed and ensure client happiness

  • Relationships – quickly building and maintaining relationships with reporters to ensure that our materials are getting picked up

  • Finding voices – looking for, vetting and developing local individuals to help tell the story and ensuring that their message is in line with the client


Business Development    (Estimated percentage of time: 10%)

  • Client recruitment – conversations with potential clients to discuss needs, challenges and find ways to pitch our services

  • Client recruitment support – joining partners or other staff in conversations with potential clients to sell clients on the firm and work towards contract signing 

  • Relationship building – engaging in conversations, events, coffees and meetings that lead to increase rolodex for the firm and opportunities to pitch

REQUIRED SKILLS – a personality that is constantly driving towards excellence, a child-like enjoyment of working hard and fighting for the issues critical to make our country better for those with the least, a life moto to do dope shit, a creative mind that is unique and will always be looking for the next great way to say something, a juggler who can handle multiple tasks and loads of stress without cracking, a fake-it-till-you make it attitude that will try to do something and fail but isn't afraid to ask for clarification to improve the changes for success, a leave the ego at the door and only bust that shit out only when really needed, a constant collaborator whose favorite email category is CC, and a personal ethos to always try and make clients happy while being a professional advisor that can tell them when they are wrong. We aren't looking for someone who is at their first rodeo, but you don't need decades of experience either. 

IDEAL SKILLS –

  • Expertise leading creative communications or media campaigns around policy or political issues

  • Strong news and political savvy and deep knowledge of the current media and political landscape

  • Ability to communicate clearly and effectively, both orally and in writing, with all levels of clients, media and staff members

  • Ability to take complex issues and quickly craft easily understood written material

  • Ability to effectively edit materials quickly and develop other individuals writing skills

  • Strong experience with media relations and demonstrated relationships with national reporters

  • Bachelor's degree or comparable experience in a communications-related field
