Campus Vote Project (CVP) was launched in 2012 by Fair Elections Center (Center) to expand our work on student voting issues. We work with universities, community colleges, faculty, students, and election officials to reduce barriers to student voting. CVP helps campuses institutionalize reforms that empower students with the information they need to register and vote.
CVP seeks to hire an outreach and communications director. The outreach and communications director will lead our efforts in reaching and engaging new partners, college administrators and faculty, and students across the country. They will also play a key role in strategizing and working with Fair Elections Center's communication and policy manager to implement a 2020 communications plan for CVP.
Key Responsibilities
- Develop a 2020 communications and outreach strategy for Campus Vote Project that broadens our reach and deepens our relationships with core colleges and universities, state and national partners, and students
- Maintain our Salsa database and send regular emails to CVP members, Voter Friendly Campuses, and our state and national partners.
- Coordinate social media campaigns across multiple platforms, and run election-based ads around registration deadlines and election dates.
- Work with state staff to develop and implement state-specific communications strategies including developing social media, partner emails, and uplifting success stories.
- Support maintenance for the Campus Vote Project website including updating information, writing blog posts, and creating new content.
- Identify state and national press opportunities such as tracking voting rights new, submitting op-eds, and writing letters to the editor where fitting.
- Manage the production and updating of resources and materials for CVP's staff and partners, such as the Student Voter Engagement Handbook and bi-annual Voter Friendly Campus Report.
- Reach out to campus administrators, local election officials, and organizations to develop new partnerships.
- Create social media squares, posters, and other images to promote our work.
Qualifications. Excellent communication skills are required, as well as outreach or organizing experience, including familiarity with social media and web-based applications. The ideal candidate will be skilled in cultivating and maintaining relationships with organizational partners and press. Design and marketing experience a plus. Some knowledge of election administration and voting rights is preferred. Applicants should have a strong commitment to the organization's mission, an entrepreneurial spirit, and a passion for civil rights and voting rights.
