Investigative research firm based in Washington, DC seeks research associates to work on a variety of projects including domestic and international politics, public policy and progressive issues, as well as legal and corporate inquiries. Individuals will be responsible for producing thorough, high-quality research on a range of issues and subject matter, individuals, and groups on strict deadlines. This is a full-time position located in Washington, D.C.
Principal Responsibilities
The Research Associate is responsible for conducting long-term research projects for clients, answering short-term and rapid response inquiries, and tracking ongoing issues and policy areas.
Specific Duties
- Conduct long-term research projects and produce accurate, timely research memos for clients
- Review and analyze court records, tax filings, campaign finance filings, and other public records
- Complete client rapid response and internal research requests
- Track legislation, litigation, and news developments
- Perform other duties as assigned, including fact-checking, copy-editing and assisting other research team members as needed
Qualifications
- 2 to 4 years of experience directly in research, or comparable experience in other business, legislative, or political fields with a research focus, including journalism, preferred.
- Strong writing, editing/proof reading and fact-checking skills
- Can summarize, analyze, and convert large amounts of information into useful, digestible, and presentable formats
- Highly organized, paying attention to detail and exhibiting sound judgment
- Work well under pressure, balance several projects and tasks simultaneously, and adhere to strict deadlines
- Understand and respect the requirements of confidentiality
- Preference for those with some background in compiling information on corporate matters and corporations, including familiarity with business records and databases
