The Center on Budget and Policy Priorities is a high-caliber strategic policy organization that informs and shapes public policies to reduce poverty, promote equity, and build opportunity, on both the federal and state levels. To advance these goals in the states, the Center co-founded and continues to coordinate and convene the State Priorities Partnership.

 

The State Priorities Partnership is the nation's leading network of state policy organizations working to advance racial, social, and economic equity to build broad prosperity and thriving state economies. The Center's state team of almost 40 staff works directly with Partnership member organizations, the Steering Committee of Partnership directors, and the Partnership's National Funding Collaborative to implement a shared vision for the network — from cultivating collaboration across state lines to distributing millions of grant dollars.   

 

The Director or Deputy Director of Network Equity and Inclusion will serve as an advisor and guide to State Priorities Partnership organizations, helping to center equity and inclusion in all facets of their work. The Director or Deputy Director will bring a particular focus to the internal organizational policies, practices, and culture of Partnership groups in order to strengthen the overall effectiveness of each member and that of the network as a whole.  

 


The Director or Deputy Director will: 


·         Design and lead an inclusive and collaborative process to develop an overall strategy for deepening Partnership capacity to advance equity, diversity and inclusion.  

 

·         Develop and coordinate a program of training programs, tools, and leadership coaching, and serve as a resource, mentor, advisor, and equity and inclusion expert to network directors and supervisors in creating organizations and a network where the diverse lived experiences of staff shape the quality and direction of the work. The focus of these resources will include addressing implicit bias, de-centering whiteness, and leading effectively through organizational change. 

 

·         Collaborate with executive directors and human resources staff across the network to strengthen specific processes and plans to recruit, develop, and retain people of color, LGBTQ+, women, and other under-represented identities. 

 

·         Work with and support the network's Racial and Ethnic Equity Working Group, the Gender Equity Committee, and other appropriate committees to establish core competencies and build capacity for addressing systemic inequities and their racialized manifestations in public facing and partner engagement work as well as internal organizational change;  

 

·         Maintain and update network knowledge of models and best practices in developing and implementing diversity, inclusion, and equity strategies by staying abreast of the relevant literature, tracking the work of other organizations, and maintaining contact with other experts in the field.  

  

·         Work with other key CBPP staff to support organizational development efforts and cross-state peer learning to accelerate and amplify the embrace of equity, diversity, and inclusion at all levels of network organizations. 

 

·         Develop and implement key benchmarks and metrics of progress, ongoing assessment, reporting mechanisms, and other accountability measures. 

 

·         Manage an equity, diversity, and inclusion budget and related consultant contracts.  



 

Qualifications

 

·         Demonstrated experience and success in leading and managing organizational change processes, especially as they relate to equity and inclusion. 

 

·         Demonstrated ability to think strategically and move ideas from conception to implementation while generating new and innovative ideas, programs, and solutions to ensure goals are met or exceeded.  

 

·         Excellent interpersonal, oral, and written communication skills, including the ability to facilitate conversation, build rapport, and collaborate with diverse constituencies.  

 

·         Knowledge of and sensitivity to diversity, equity, and inclusion in all its forms (including, for example, across race, ethnicity, gender identity, and national origin), its intersectional nature, historical and structural barriers to advancement of diverse people and communities, and how these factors can operate in the workplace. 

 

·         Strong knowledge of public policies in the Partnership's issue areas of expertise and their impact on diverse communities, especially communities of color. 

 

·         Director, Network Equity and Inclusion: Ten years' work experience, preferably in the non-profit sector, with leadership-level experience in collaborating, developing, and implementing equity, diversity, and inclusive organizational plans.  

 

·         Deputy Director, Network Equity and Inclusion: Seven years' work experience, preferably in the non-profit sector, with leadership-level experience in collaborating, developing, and implementing equity, diversity, and inclusive organizational plans.  

 


Preferences 

 

·         Demonstrated experience in leading organizational development and change in a state-level policy organization, especially as it relates to equity and inclusion. 

 

·         Strong preference for a Washington, D.C.-based candidate.
