Organization Background:
Michigan United (501c3) is a statewide organization of community members and institutions
fighting for the dignity and potential of every person. Created out of the merger of MOP
(Michigan Organizing Project) and AIR (Alliance for Immigrant Rights), we have won major
victories to improve the lives of those who have been marginalized by poverty, racism, and
inequality. Michigan People's Campaign is our 501c4 sister organization. We organize along the
following issue areas: immigrants' rights, criminal justice reform, environmental justice, universal
family care (including health, child care, elder care and paid sick time), and civic engagement.
Our main office is in Southwest Detroit, with additional offices in Kalamazoo, Grand Rapids, and
Flint. As a racial and economic justice organization, we actively encourage individuals who are

Position Title:
Eastpointe Ranked Choice Voting Fellowship Manager

Position Summary:
Movement Politics is an innovative way of looking at elections as opportunities to build people
power and dramatically transform our economic and political system to one that puts people
ahead of corporations and the 1%.The fellowship managers will play a major role in MU's 2019
transformative electoral strategy, each managing a team of fellows. The Movement Politics
Fellowship is Michigan United's program designed to transform emerging organizers from a
primarily canvassing role to a primarily organizing role. This particular fellowship will be
focused on educating about Ranked Choice Voting and mobilizing voters in Eastpointe to
participate in the first ever Ranked Choice election in Michigan.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
● Implementing Michigan United's and Michigan People's Campaign Movement Politics
Fellowship program with a focus on relentless leadership development.
● Managing a team of 4-6 organizing fellows and one electoral field organizer.
● Voter targeting and data management
● Coordinating with issue staff to advance campaign goals.
● Creating and editing canvassing scripts
● Recruiting, hiring, and orienting new field staff
●Depending on staffing, spend a portion of the workweek building a team of volunteers
volunteers in the City of Eastpointe to educate voters about Ranked Choice Voting and
mobilize them in the upcoming election.
● Depending on staffing, spend a portion of the workweek building a local coalition of
congregations, neighborhood and other organizations to support the implementation of
Ranked Choice Voting and educate voters.
● As needed, work with other Michigan United staff to organize earned media
opportunities such as press conferences and letters to the editor of local newspapers.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
● High level of familiarity with electoral as well as community organizing
● High level of familiarity with the VAN
● Ability to exercise discretion and maturity when handling human resource issues.
● Demonstrated track record of thinking critically with the ability to see two steps ahead and
anticipate any issues that may arise.
● Extreme attention to detail, organizational skills, and time management skills
● Proactively works to improve operational systems.
● Positive attitude in the face of new and evolving challenges and fast-paced environment.
● Proficient with Google Docs, Dropbox, and Microsoft Office

Previous Life and/or Educational Experiences: (*notes which are preferred but not
required)
● At least 1 cycle of political campaign experience in an organizing role or canvassing role
● At least 1 cycle of experience in a canvass management role preferred*

Working Conditions:
● Office environment with moderate amounts of walking, climbing stairs, ability to lift 25 lbs
● Weekly hours will fluctuate between 50 and 65 hours per week
● Eastpointe-based, with occasional travel.

Salary & Benefits:
● Pay Range: $45,760, annually, paid as $1,760 every two weeks
● This position lasts until November 15th, 2019
● Benefits: phone and travel stipends
