GBAO, a progressive DC-based public opinion research firm, is seeking a research assistant to join its team. The research assistant will play a supporting role on projects for top political campaigns and influential organizations and institutions. Through this work the research assistant will gain familiarity with political polling, as well as the hard skills required to help manage strategic research.
Responsibilities include:
- Ensuring quality control of the research process, including survey design testing and live research monitoring, sometimes in the evening
- Assisting with the organization and execution of research projects, including surveys and focus groups
- Conducting background research on local, state, national, and international campaigns and initiatives that focus on a range of political, cultural, and economic issues
- Proofreading and editing of documents and data products such as questionnaires, memos, and presentations
The ideal candidate is a recent college graduate who is intellectually curious, passionate about progressive politics, and a strong team player who can keep up in a fast-paced work environment. Good time management and communication skills are a must. The candidate should be comfortable with Microsoft Office, including drafting Word documents, analyzing data and using formulas in Excel, and designing presentations and editing data charts in PowerPoint. All candidates must demonstrate keen attention to accuracy and detail. Prior internships, political experience, a demonstrated interest in Democratic politics, and/or statistical backgrounds are a plus. Spanish language skills or proficiency in a language other than English is an asset.
Salary and benefits: $35,000 annual salary; 3 percent employer contribution to 401(k); CareFirst health care insurance, including full premium and deductible paid by employer; 2 weeks vacation plus the last week of December. GBAO is an equal opportunity employer.
