[jobsthatareLEFT by GAIN] Assistant Canvass Director: Social Justice Campaigns in Chicago, IL

Our current political climate has set a tone of intolerance and injustice affecting thousands or even millions of people across the country. The Trump administration has expressed harmful rhetoric and passed increasingly regressive policies that will continue to impact generations to come. In 2019 alone, 7 states have challenged Roe v Wade by passing legislation restricting access to abortion, immigrant families are being cruelly separated at the border or placed in detention centers stripping them of basic necessities, and marginalized communities have continued to be underrepresented in state and federal public decisions. Grassroots Campaigns is partnering with several key organizations including The American Civil Liberties Union.

The ACLU is one of the most central and critical nonprofit organizations to these historic battles. For almost 100 years, they have maintained the mission to defend the individual rights of every person protected by the US constitution. We are working on behalf of the ACLU and to build membership, name recognition and funding to combat the current administration and protect civil liberties for all.

We're hiring inspired leaders to build and run the canvass programs that will grow the grassroots membership bases for this crucial organization. We are looking for individuals who are passionate and professional and have an enthusiastic interest in creating lasting change. Positions are available in several cities across the country for immediate employment.

JOB RESPONSIBILITIES
As an Assistant Canvass Director you would be responsible for motivating and training a team of staff. Assistant Canvass Directors work independently and as a team to hit their campaign goals. They are responsible for making campaign plans to hit their overall membership, education and fundraising targets for the year.

  • Recruitment: Build a team of 15-50 canvassers by recruiting from within the local community. Identify and interview prospective staff and make hiring decisions.
  • Staff Management: Teach canvassing and fundraising skills.
  • Leadership Development: Work with your staff in individual and group settings with a particular eye towards developing leaders. Cultivate a welcoming and motivating atmosphere.
  • Canvassing: Canvass 3-4 times per week to train new and experienced staff in the field and meet personal fundraising requirements.
  • Administration: Carefully track income and expenses. Handle the budget for your office. Process staff payroll. Maintain records for future organizing efforts.

QUALIFICATIONS
We are looking for college graduates who are excellent communicators, have a strong work ethic, and are dedicated to making positive political and social change. Previous field or canvassing experience is not a requirement but for those who have it may qualify for additional leadership positions.

PAY & BENEFITS
The compensation for a canvass director is $28,000.00 to $31,000.00 /year. We offer all Assistant Canvass Directors a benefits package that includes an ability to enroll in our group-paid health care and our college-loan assistance program, as well as paid vacation and sick days.

EXPECTATIONS
Due to the importance of the issues we work on, most of the year, a typical work week runs 50-60 hours, including frequent work on weekends. We pride ourselves on our training program that is dedicated to teaching our directors how to run successful, effective, and fun offices. This is a unique opportunity designed to cultivate and build leadership with today's activist and influence positive changes for society,

LOCATIONS:
Positions are available for immediate hiring in existing offices in Milwaukee, Chicago and Washington, D.C. In some cases we would consider hiring candidates to launch operations in new places. In those cases, relocation may be required for training.
