Clean Energy Program Director: Environment America
Environment America is seeking an experienced advocate/organizer to lead our Clean Energy team. This person will work with our national program team, local organizers, and other key allies across the country to build momentum, expand support, and win policies to accelerate the shift to renewable energy.
American dependence on dirty energy sources like coal, oil, gas and nuclear energy contributes to global warming, pollutes our air, land and water and leaves a legacy of waste. For the sake of our health and our environment and to protect the quality of life of future generations, we must shift from dirty to pollution-free energy options as quickly as possible.
To achieve this end, Environment America is working to build a drumbeat of demand for clean energy. To gain support, we are highlighting the benefits associated with clean energy, educating the public about the problems caused by reliance on fossil fuels, and working to get more citizens, more opinion leaders, more people and more organizations representing varied and powerful constituencies engaged in the effort to transition the nation from dirty to clean energy.
Responsibilities Include:
Campaign Management: Work with staff and allies to develop and drive campaigns for 100% clean energy in states, local jurisdictions, and institutions. This involves developing and executing campaign initiatives and meeting strategic and tactical objectives.
Coalition Building: Manage partnerships with collaborating organizations and key players, cultivate relationships with diverse allies, and expand the constituencies supporting our efforts.
Grassroots Mobilization: Work with organizers and advocates in states across the country to build our list of supporters, while also educating and mobilizing citizens. Develop and share compelling information to enlist more supporters, and create opportunities for action for our members and for the general public.
Media and Visibility: Get the word out far and wide about our campaigns to the general public, via traditional and social media, public forums, conference presentations and other speaking engagements.
Research and Policy: Manage research associated with the campaign.
Fundraising: Win support for the campaign from foundations and large donors, via citizen outreach and through our digital team.
Recruitment: Help recruit new staff, interns and volunteers for this campaign and others. Add one new staffer per year to the clean energy team.
Management: Coordinate staff working on the campaign, including organizers, advocates and citizen outreach teams.
Qualifications:
Candidates should have a significant career track record of leadership within citizen based social change organizations or within the clean energy sector. We're seeking a goal-driven, results-oriented individual with excellent verbal, writing and analytical skills, the ability to speak persuasively in a charged atmosphere, and enthusiasm for the work. Candidates must have excellent judgment and discretion and the ability to oversee significant projects. The Clean Energy Program Director will report directly to the Senior Vice President and Chief Operating Officer of Programs.
The ideal candidate will have experience with organizing, political advocacy and policy development, a proven ability to recruit, train, and develop staff and volunteers, fundraising experience, and demonstrated success in building relationships with environmental and political stakeholders.
