Door to Door Canvasser, Danbury Prospect 


Job Description

Prospect Schools is seeking a talented and dedicated Door to Door Canvasser to support our campaign to open a new public middle school in Danbury, CT. The Door to Door Canvasser will educate and inform Danbury residents about our school and gather petition signatures in support of opening the school. 

The ideal candidate is an excellent communicator and a results-driven organizer who believes deeply in the importance of building community leadership and power. The Door to Door Canvasser will be responsible for driving a sustained effort to educate individuals and boost public awareness about the school. Their responsibilities will include articulating and revising messaging, data management, support with turnout for key events, and leadership development.  S/he will be responsible for doing all of this in collaboration with staff, members, leaders, and allies. S/he must be able to organize and effectively communicate at all levels – with grassroots community people as well as established community leaders and policy experts. The Canvasser will report directly to Prospect Schools and may also work closely with existing community leaders, community organizers and core partners in our campaign.

About the Role:

Canvassing:

  • Canvassing door to door and in high visibility areas to boost public awareness, and persuade individuals to take action in support of DPCS campaign to secure funding.

  • Recruit, turn out and support in the development of community leaders.

  • Work with the existing database to track leads, petition signers, and scheduled volunteers.

  • Attend and support with turnout for direct actions, events, and other tactics to move the campaign forward.

  • Regularly communicate the campaign's progress to our members, staff, and partners.

  • Complete follow-up phone calls to generated leads.

  • Other duties as needed. 


Competencies and Qualifications

  • Bilingual (Spanish/English) speaker required

  • Exceptionally strong communication skills, with an ability to communicate across lines of difference and demonstrated focus on outreach and targeted communications.

  • Outstanding time management, project management, and delegation skills.

  • Ability to think critically as well as self-identify problems and potential solutions.

  • Willingness to work evenings and weekends.

  • Skilled in the use of Microsoft Office, Google Suite, Google Analytics.

  • Full-time access to a car.

Pay Rate and Hours

Typical shifts will be 12-5 pm on weekends and 3 pm to 8 pm on weekdays. We estimate canvassers will be working 25 per week. Employment will begin immediately and may conclude as late as May 31, 2019. 


The pay rate is $15.00 per hour.
