Fireside Campaigns, a startup progressive communications and digital firm, is seeking a smart, Digital Strategist wanting to get in on the ground floor of something special at one of our offices in Washington, D.C. The Digital Strategist will drive digital strategy for our clients in addition to writing and editing content for both email and social media.
They will work with the firm's partners to develop overarching digital strategy, calendars, email plans, and advertising plans for Democratic campaigns and/or progressive advocacy groups across the country. Working collaboratively with the ads team, they will help create and manage digital advertising campaigns for both email acquisition and voter contact. They will help pull, analyze, and share clients' advertising, social and email metrics. The Digital Strategist must be a strong writer with incredibly close attention to detail.
The firm already has a book of exciting established candidates and non-profit clients who are working to reform and safeguard America's democracy while challenging the Trump administration and its collaborators across all issue areas and on every communications platform.
The position will require an individual who understands that we've entered a new era of political communications in this country, and the tactics that we've employed for a generation to influence voters and compel them to action simply aren't working anymore. The ideal candidate will understand that progressive messaging needs to be put directly into the hands of the people who need to hear it in order for them to successfully take action. The Digital Strategist will understand that this messaging needs to be written in a way so that target audiences will emotionally connect with it and feel compelled to share those messages with others.
Responsibilities:
- Drive digital strategy, calendars, email and advertising for clients
- Serve as a front-facing contact directly with clients
- Ensure high-quality work is delivered on-time, on-budget and goals are hit
- Edit, create, and write email, text and social media content
- Collaborate with other team members to develop integrated online advertising and acquisition campaigns
- Proactively look for creative applications of new digital tools, techniques, and channels for communicating with voters
- Schedule and deploy emails in a variety of CRM platforms
- Track and report weekly performance data on email, text, social and advertising programs and recommend strategy adjustments as needed
- Train and supervise junior strategists, checking their work, fostering their growth and setting them up for success

Required skills and experience
- Strong writing and copy editing skills
- EoQ/EoM is a thing you love/hate
- Ability to deliver on tight deadlines in a fast-paced environment
- Thrive working with a team
- Experience writing, managing, and executing email, text and social programs for political campaigns and/or progressive nonprofit organizations
- Excellent communicator comfortable working with a distributed team in different time zones using the tools of a modern office like Google Docs and Slack
- Experience driving social media campaigns on Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, and other channels
- Multiple years of experience working with CRM and CMS systems, especially Action Network, BSD Tools, NGP/EveryAction, and WordPress
- HTML/CSS
- Ability to manage many different projects on time from assignment to delivery
- Commitment to progressive causes and issues
- Experience or familiarity with digital advertising platforms
Pluses, but not required
- Meticulous proofreader who enjoys fierce debates over the Oxford comma
- Graphic design experience
- Analytics chops
- Experience working with both electoral campaigns and issue organizations
- Ability to code email and landing page wrappers
