Overview

Faith in Public Life (FPL) seeks a talented Senior Communications Associate to monitor the media, grow press lists, pitch reporters, and contribute to FPL's overall communications strategy. The Senior Communications Associate reports to the Vice President of Communications & Digital Strategy and will play an active role in creating and executing successful communications campaigns.

Faith in Public Life is a national network of over 50,000 clergy and faith leaders united in the prophetic pursuit of justice and the common good. Since 2005, FPL has amplified progressive faith voices in the media, challenged the narrow agenda of the religious right and build diverse coalitions with national and state-based partners on moral issues such as health care, immigration reform and economic justice.

Responsibilities:


  • Oversee and or perform the writing, editing, production, and dissemination of communications including, press releases, op-ed pieces, influencer content and promotional materials;


  • Build strong relationships with reporters; rapidly respond to reporter inquiries; support media and communications strategies for regional offices; 


  • Develop internal and external communications resources, such as media toolkits and impact reports; 


  • Identify and develop newsworthy content opportunities, pitch angles and creative story ideas and secure placements in appropriate media. Works collaboratively with the digital team to help maximize opportunities and ensure consistency of messaging across platforms;


  • Provide direction to and contribute to the oversight of remote communications events



Qualifications


  • Bachelor's degree required

  • Excellent critical thinking and reading skills

  • Extensive training on press outreach, fundamentals of the new cycle and earned media.

  • Strong oral and written communication skills, particularly under deadline pressure. Prefer candidates who have writing experience – please include relevant writing samples.

  • Minimum 4 years experience in working in communications or press

  • Detail oriented

  • Fundamental understanding of and commitment to organization's mission, values and goals.

  • Must work well under pressure and tight deadlines.

  • Plus: Experience working with faith communities or at the intersection of faith and politics.

Compensation and Benefits

This is a senior level position with a salary range of $55,000 to $60,000 dependent upon experience. 


We offer generous and comprehensive benefits including full medical, dental and vision premium coverage, life insurance, and an FSA/DCA savings plan. We also offer an up to 6% 403b plan contribution and a commuter, cell phone and professional development stipend. We provide 15 paid vacation days, 10 paid sick days, 10 paid federal holidays, and additional paid administrative leave, including the week between Christmas Eve and New Year's Day.
