I'm hiring a hotshot organizer ASAP for a voting rights restoration campaign in Iowa, running 10/28-12/20. The Organizer will directly work to help people with past convictions regain their voting rights, build media pressure on the issue, and train hundreds of canvassers and community leaders on re-enfranchisement laws to amplify their impact.

 

The pay is $800-$825/wk plus benefits. We will cover relocation and housing for out of state candidates, but Iowa preferred. Candidate must have a car.

360 Campaign Consulting is working with Campaign Legal Center's Restore Your Vote project to launch a campaign in Iowa to restore voting rights to people with convictions. Felony disenfranchisement silences the voices of over 23 million Americans and has a disproportionate impact on communities of color. There are currently 18 million Americans with past convictions that have the right to vote but don't know it. 5 million more may be eligible to restore their voting rights with access to their state's rights restoration processes. We are running a campaign to get the word out and help people restore their right to vote.

 

General Overview:

 

As the campaign organizer, you will work to directly identify and help people with past convictions regain their voting rights. You will also build media pressure on policymakers to take action to re-enfranchise all Iowans and train hundreds of community leaders and canvassing staff on re-enfranchisement laws so that they can effectively walk people through regaining their voting rights.

 

Location: Des Moines, IA or other major Iowa city

 

Timeframe: Begins Mid-October 2019; runs 10-12 weeks

 

Responsibilities Include, But Are Not Limited To:

 

Citizen Outreach

Restore the right to vote to hundreds of Iowans by:

  • Canvassing neighborhoods and public businesses to identify people who need their voting rights restored

  • Helping people navigate the rights restoration process

  • Organizing voting rights clinics

  • Identifying potential volunteers

 

Media Pressure

Elevate the voices and stories of people with past convictions by:

  • Organizing a press conference and using other visibility tools to call attention to voting rights

  • Publishing op-eds from citizens who have regained their rights

 

Community Empowerment

Train hundreds of community leaders and activists to understand and navigate Iowa's complicated rights restoration laws by:

  • Developing curricula, recruiting, and running trainings for hundreds of local leaders and canvassing staff on the rights restoration process

  • Running trainings for volunteers

  • Seeking and recruiting other campaign partners

Other Projects

  • Track numbers, draft weekly organizing reports to analyze work

  • Assist on special projects as needed

Qualifications

  • Experience in field and volunteer organizing either on advocacy or electoral campaigns

  • Detail orientation and good follow-up skills

  • Strong verbal and written communication skills; personally organized

  • Self-starter and excellent problem-solving skills

  • Willingness to work evenings and weekends

Salary

 

The salary for this position is $800-$825 per week. We offer a generous benefits package, including paid vacation, paid sick leave, health insurance, and a classroom style training. At the end of the campaign, there may be opportunities for advancement.
