Position Title: Young Leadership Fellow

Reports to: National Director of Young Leadership

Location: Washington DC

Internship duration: October 2019 - January 2020 (with an option to extend)

 

Position

J Street is seeking an undergraduate student, graduate student, or recent graduate as a fellow in our Washington, DC office for the fall of 2019 and Winter of 2020. The fellow will work with the Director of Young Leadership to implement J Street's Young Leadership Advocacy Corps, designed to engage young adults from 22-35 in J Street's work and to provide them a political home on Israel/Palestine.

This fellowship is an excellent opportunity to better understand and get involved in J Street's work, to learn organizing skills and political and legislative strategies, and to deepen one's knowledge of the Israeli-Palestinian conflict. 

This position is ideal for applicants interested in programming, community organizing and/or political advocacy.

 

Responsibilities May Include:

  • Researching and reaching out to potential participants

  • Making phone calls to and having one-on-one conversations with potential participants

  • Updating and managing Young Leadership databases

  • Making confirmation calls

  • Enlisting Young Leadership volunteers for outreach to potential participants

  • Assisting with outreach to potential new supporters

  • Assisting Young Leadership Director with program design

  • Preparing program materials

  • Outreach to and communication with program presenters

  • Other tasks as needed

Desired Skills and Experience:

  • Curiosity about people

  • High level of comfort talking to new people

  • Ability to find common interest with folks around J Street's work

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills

  • Excellent organizational skills

  • Pays attention to detail

  • Self-motivated; able to take initiative

  • Knowledge of the Israeli-Palestinian conflict a plus

  • Some experience doing community outreach and engagement

  • Some program management experience

J Street is the political home for pro-Israel, pro-peace Americans working for the future of Israel as the democratic homeland of the Jewish people. The organization believes that preserving Israel's Jewish and democratic character depends on achieving a two-state solution, resulting in a Palestinian state living alongside Israel in peace and security.

Launched in 2008 with four staff and a limited budget, J Street is now a $10 million organization with a national staff of more than 60. The organization is headquartered in Washington, DC, employing staff in 8 cities including Boston, Chicago, Los Angeles, New York, San Francisco, Denver and Tel Aviv.

J Street focuses its work in three main areas: (1) Advocating and demonstrating support for pro-Israel, pro-peace policies in Congress, the media and the Jewish community; (2) Endorsing and raising money for federal candidates who share J Street's agenda; and (3) Educating the public and raising awareness of the Israeli-Palestinian conflict and the two-state solution.


Compensation and Time Commitment

This is a paid part-time position. Hours can range from 10-15 weekly hours at $15 per hour.  Applicants are considered on a rolling basis. Please indicate in your cover letter your days and hours of availability.
