[jobsthatareLEFT by GAIN] Community Organizer, Virginia Campaign for a Family Friendly Economy- Richmond & Norfolk, VA

Women Effect Fund

Virginia Campaign for a Family Friendly Economy (CFFE) Community Organizer

Position Overview

The Women Effect Fund (WEF) seeks an innovative and energetic grassroots organizer for the Virginia Campaign for a Family Friendly Economy.

The Virginia campaign will partner with established state organizations and new women activists who are on the forefront of an unprecedented renewal of civic engagement and activism among Virginia—and American—women. The campaign will help sustain and grow their movement while building public support for important policies that benefit working women and their families.

The campaign is looking for an organizer based in Richmond and Norfolk. The organizer will be responsible for working directly with newly formed grassroots groups, partner organizations and activists in their region of the state. The campaign aims to engage the public and elected officials to support the policies included in a family friendly economic agenda, starting with paid family and medical leave. Equally, the campaign will deepen engagement of women in civil society, and change the culture around women's civic engagement.

The organizer will contribute to the design and implementation of an exciting new program that will develop a model for engagement with new progressive activists.

The ideal candidate has experience working in political or advocacy campaigns and with a diverse set of coalition partners and allies. The organizer will be a creative team player who thrives in a fast-paced environment.

The organizer will have outstanding interpersonal communication and organization skills. They will be committed to women's equality, believe in the power of grassroots organizing to make change and be open to challenging the norms of traditional advocacy work.

Organization Overview

The Women Effect Fund (WEF), a project of New Venture Fund, was founded in 2015 as a collaborative fund of individual donors, foundations and public charities dedicated to an intersectional approach towards achieving true economic equality for all women in our lifetimes. The WEF connects donors and doers to build power and win advocacy campaigns to advance gender equity and economic justice for women. By changing policies and building a movement of people who share their goals, they build the conditions for broader culture change.

The Rockefeller Family Fund (RFF) is one of the founding organizations and partners of the Women Effect Fund. Over the past eight years, the RFF has worked to improve women's economic equality by establishing policies like earned sick leave and paid family and medical leave. Since RFF began this work, more than 13 million people have gained access to earned sick leave in ten states and more than 35 cities.

In addition to our work at WEF, The Women Effect Action Fund, a project of the 1630 Fund, a 501(c)(4) non-profit, advocates for these issues at the ballot box, highlighting the importance of family-friendly policies to the electorate, building support for candidates that center smart policies for women and families and holding elected officials accountable.
