National Field Director
Lower Drug Prices Now (LDPN) is a campaign of state and national multi-issue organizations fighting for transformative, bold reforms that will ensure everyone -- no matter where they live, what they look like or what's in their wallet -- has access to affordable prescription medicines to meet their and their family's needs. Lower Drug Prices Now is a fiscally-sponsored project of the New Venture Fund (NVF).
Summary of Position: This is a full-time position offering competitive salary and benefits. LDPN is seeking an experienced senior organizer to build a paid and volunteer field program in states around the country that implements our national campaign strategy and meets our LDPN goals. The National Field Director will work as part of a senior leadership team to integrate all the campaign tactics, develop and drive the public education and advocacy strategy, and to get the work of the campaign partners to add up to a powerful national effort.
The right candidate for this position should have diverse experience in a range of areas including: civic engagement, legislative advocacy, retail organizing, capacity building and integrating on the ground and digital organizing tactics. The candidate must be able to manage both paid and volunteer field organizing efforts and work at the intersection of a complex network of relationships and stakeholders. Some experience with corporate campaigns and direct action is helpful. Familiarity with a variety of organizing models and tools as well as existing relationships with national and state grassroots organizations is also desirable.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
● Helps develop strategy, systems and program to implement LDPN's national campaign in the states including basic tactics like one on one organizing, identifying and training leaders, generating media through events, grassroots lobbying and direct actions.
● Builds and maintains partnerships and alliances with a range of C3 and C4 issue organizations in the states and nationally that facilitate shared accountability for accomplishing LDPN's goals based on the national campaign plan.
● Supervises contracted state partners in meeting standardized deliverables based on agreed upon MOU agreements, state plans and a shared vision of success.
● Coordinates and facilitates collaboration among LDPN's national field partners and other allies who have field capacity in order to build a robust volunteer program for the campaign and increase the capacity of coalition partners to engage in this work.
● Identifies new allies, partners and stakeholders who may engage in the campaign and bring increased diversity, new perspectives and more messengers on our issue.
● Provides leadership, technical advice and strategic support to field groups in planning and execution of field activities as needed.
● Establishes and implements regular reporting systems, regular review and other processes that promote accountability and that incorporate metrics-based with qualitative evaluation.
● Facilitates legal compliance with applicable rules for issue education, lobbying and advocacy campaigns.
● Develops materials, training, and other tools for LDPN partners and/or staff as needed.
● Represents LDPN at meetings, conferences, and in other appropriate venues.
● Manages and selects vendors and consultants as needed.
● Other responsibilities and tasks as needed.
Qualifications:
● Minimum of 15-20 years of experience leading issue or advocacy campaigns in unions, community organizations, faith groups or on state/national legislative campaigns.
● History with and commitment to work for social, economic, gender and racial justice.
● Comfort working with racially and economically diverse communities and organizations.
● Commitment to and basic familiarity with capacity building metrics and tactics.
● Relationships and familiarity with a variety of grassroots organizations including labor, worker centers, congregation-based groups, civic engagement, service-oriented, immigrant rights and racial justice groups.
● Ability to drive fast-paced issue campaigns, to manage accountability in a coalition environment and to expand the scale of advocacy over time.
● Knowledge of a broad range of organizing tactics and understanding of how to integrate communications, on-line and base-building to meet goals.
● Strong verbal and written communications skills.
● Demonstrated ability to work well under pressure, take initiative and manage multiple priorities and projects effectively and to work as part of a small team of colleagues.
● Strong follow-up skills, including excellent attention to detail and accuracy.
● Basic understanding of legal compliance rules for education, lobbying, advocacy and political activity.
● Experience with political or electoral campaigns is required.
Additional Skills:
● Fluency in Spanish is helpful but not required.
● Knowledge of or experience working on prescription drug or health care issues or in the healthcare advocacy landscape is helpful but not required.
