A newly elected Democratic Supervisor-Elect is looking to hire a Legislative Aide to for her district in Eastern Loudoun County.  Job Description is below, position is paid full-time with some additional benefits.



Job Title: Legislative Aide (LA)


Reports To: The Legislative Aide will report to the Supervisor and Chief Legislative Aide.


Job Overview: The Legislative Aide (LA) assists in the day-to-day work of the district office in Leesburg, VA. The LA works with the Chief Legislative Aide and any Legislative Interns to be a front line contact to constituents, County agencies, and any other outside entities. The LA assists with research and review of legislation coming before the Board of Supervisors.


Responsibilities and Duties:


  • Act as a first line of contact between the public and the Supervisor. Work with County Administration as needed to develop appropriate responses. 

  • Office communications, including social media and a monthly newsletter.

  • Manage the Supervisor's schedule. 

  • Plan and manage events.

  • Outreach with community and key constituent groups.

  • Assist with reviewing, drafting, and analyzing legislation.

  • Attend meetings with community groups and constituents. 

  • Help coordinate with county, state, and federal agencies on matters affecting the Sterling District.

  • Other duties as assigned. 


Qualifications:


Education level: Bachelor Degree in Political Science, Public Policy, Public Administration or similar field preferred.


Experience: Minimum of two years' experience with an elected official's office, government agency, legislative policy, or other relevant experience required.


Specific skills: Familiarity with Microsoft Office Suite of programs required. Experience with database, website management preferred. Spanish language fluency preferred.


Personal characteristics: Preferred Candidates will be comfortable working in a high pressure environment. Candidates must be comfortable speaking to a variety of people.  Preferred candidates must be capable of working on multiple projects at a time. Preferred candidates must be comfortable speaking on behalf of the Supervisor and able to think quickly on their feet. Candidates must be comfortable working in a fluid environment and attending occasional night-time meetings. Candidates must be comfortable with a non-traditional 9-5 role, including working occasional weekends.
