About the Role:
The NYC Public Engagement Unit (PEU) identifies and executes proactive strategies to connect New Yorkers to key city services and resources. PEU is pioneering a new model for government that meets New Yorkers in their community – where they live and work – providing individualized and in-person assistance to help increase awareness of and access to a wide range of public programs, including those related to tenants' rights, affordable housing, homelessness prevention and reduction, and healthcare. PEU uses innovative technology, outreach methods and case-management strategies to help individual New Yorkers, making the city more inclusive, healthier and diverse.
The Public Engagement Unit consists of teams of specialists who are trained to engage New Yorkers and connect them with vital resources. The Unit works with partner agencies, elected officials, community groups, non-profit organizations, and service providers to engage directly with communities and subject matter experts in all five boroughs. The unit is frequently involved in citywide events, special projects in conjunction with multiple City agencies, and targeted days of action.
Responsibilities for the Senior Advisor will include, but are not limited to:
- Overseeing the development and execution of strategic plans for PEU's six outreach teams consisting of 125+ staff;
- Monitoring and analyzing incoming data to make critical resource allocation decisions;
- Spearheading collaboration with agency and community partners around the implementation of PEU's core work;
- Supporting the creation and implementation of internal processes and goals for the outreach team's hiring, training, and retention priorities;
- Liaising with City Hall and agency leadership to launch new engagement efforts;
- Providing strategic guidance to other City outreach initiatives and special projects;
- As a member of PEU's Senior Staff, collaborate with leadership, including the Policy, Communications, Data, and Employee Management teams, to design and implement key policies and procedures.
Preferred Skills:
- 5+ years of work experience with 3+ years of large-scale community, issue, government, labor, or political organizing;
- Evidenced ability to manage staff by setting ambitious yet achievable goals, objectives, and outcomes for team members and the team overall;
- Experience working with community stakeholders such as nonprofit partnerships;
- Commitment to using data to inform continuous improvement and decision-making;
- Highly ambitious in pursuit of growth and achieving excellence;
- Flexible and creative in their approach to making plans and leveraging resources;
- Results-driven and self-motivated;
- Skilled in building strong coalitions and engaging a wide range of stakeholders;
- Excellent communication, research, and analytics skills.
