Position Overview:
The Alabama Communications Director is responsible for the development of Alabama's communications strategy and managing the state's Press Secretary. The Alabama Communications Director reports to the State Director. The ideal candidate is dynamic and organized, with the ability to work effectively both with the team and autonomously on various projects.
This person will:
- Envision and develop the overall communications strategy for the campaign within the state to ensure that Tom Steyer's message and profile are raised within Alabama's media.
- Coordinate with the Digital Director and State Director for message cohesion across departments, information distribution channels, and created content.
- Manage the Press Secretary to make sure that press relationships are being maintained across the state.
- Oversee the issues and research program for the state, and develop a Rapid Response program specific for Alabama.
Qualifications, Knowledge, and Skills:
- 3-5 years of experience in political campaigns, crisis communications, or a public relations firm.
- Strong working knowledge of all Google Drive, Slack applications.
- Tact and professionalism in handling assignments involving work of a confidential nature.
- Detail-oriented with the ability to produce high-quality work under tight deadlines.
- Excellent organizational and multitasking skills, analytical problem solving skills.
- Strong oral and written communication skills, demonstrated ability to communicate with others effectively.
- Ability to re-prioritize and proven ability to succeed in a fast-moving environment.
- Experience in public policy, working for the official office of an elected official
- Experience in communications work within the state
- Experience working with key communities within the Democratic coalition.
