[jobsthatareLEFT by GAIN] Development and Executive Associate Location: Oakland/San Francisco Area

About Us: United for Respect (UFR) is a national organization building an industry voice of people
working for the country's largest retail corporations. We are a multiracial movement of working
people advancing a vision of an economy where corporations respect our work and recognize
our humanity. We are building an economy that allows us to live and work in dignity.
Through scaled leadership development and base-building, UFR's growing network is
challenging major corporations and policymakers to provide family-sustaining jobs for all
working people. We leverage technology — social media and our digital platform, WorkIt — and
bring the retail workforce into a shared community of support and advocacy.
About the Position: We are growing the development department and looking for an associate level development
professional to join our team. This position works closely with the Development Department
and the Executive Director to move high-level, cross-team development support throughout the
organization and to support the Executive Director in the day-to-day functioning of the
organization. We are looking for someone highly independent, strong communications and
organizational skills, able to work in a remote team, and take initiative.
Job Responsibilities:
Executive-Level Coordination (30%)
● Manage Executive Director's development activities, general scheduling, travel logistics,
meeting requests, and expense reports and reimbursements.
● Assist with leadership meetings, communications and other activities as needed.
Development Infrastructure and Support (50%)
● Assist with execution of development plan.
● Assist with grants management and ensure timely submissions of reports and proposals
and required attachments.
● Draft regular (monthly) updates to funders, donors and prospects.
● Research prospective funders and donors.
● Manage cultivation events for potential donors.
● Write letters, proposals, reports and thank you notes to prospective donors and funders,
as well as pre-meeting briefings for Executive Director and other senior staff.
● Respond to donor and prospective donor inquiries in a timely and professional manner.
● Oversee all acknowledgments to and stewardship of major donors.
● Manage and update the funder and major donor/prospect database.
● Maintain development files.
● Manage and update ASANA tasks.
Project Management (20%)
● Plan and manage development and organization-wide activities, whether done internally
or outsourced to a third party.
● Optimize UFR's narrative properties for search and staff accessibility across the
organization.
● Any other duties as assigned to help advance United for Respect's fundraising strategy
and organizational infrastructure as it pertains to development.
Qualifications
This is not a place where we wish to rattle off a long list of "must haves." We are looking for a
creative and mature leader with vision and insight, recognizing that person could come from a
range of backgrounds.
Some or all of these would be great to see in the ideal candidate's background:
● At least two years of fundraising experience in the nonprofit progressive community
preferred.
● Demonstrated experience writing proposals and concept papers.
● Ability to prioritize among competing priorities and multi-task across a broad spectrum of
collaborators to meet deadlines.
● Excellent written and verbal communication skills with a sharp attention to detail and
process and willingness to give (and receive) feedback.
● Excellent interpersonal skills, with the ability to work independently but collaboratively.
● Ability to manage multiple projects successfully.
● Excellent customer-service skills, detail-oriented and dependable.
● Ability to "manage up."
● Grace under pressure.
● Experience with CRM Databases, MS Office suite, especially Word, Excel and
PowerPoint, preferred.
New Spectrum of qualifications to consider
● Commitment to confidentiality and the ability to exercise absolute discretion and
independent judgment.
● A demonstrated commitment to social and racial justice issues and understanding of
challenges facing immigrant communities, communities of color, and low-and moderate
income families , and an interest in deepening your commitment to economic, racial and
gender justice.
● Strong problem-solving, relationship-building, and interpersonal skills across a range of
tasks and audiences.
● Demonstrated ability to be a proactive team player and take initiative.
● Highly motivated individual with a passion for transforming the lives of working people in
low-wage jobs.
● Comfortable with a remote work culture.
Location: Remote, Bay Area California preferred
