HIAS seeks a Grassroots Campaigns Fellow for a six month grant-funded position. The Fellow will assist with HIAS' grassroots advocacy and organizing to train new leaders and advocates, and to mobilize support for the rights and dignity of refugees and asylum seekers. The Fellow will assist with Jewish community outreach, manage the logistics for several advocacy trainings, help to compile and create resources for voter and candidate engagement in the 2020 election season, and support administrative tasks related to our grassroots campaigns work. They will primarily focus on the engagement and activation of the Jewish community in the states of Michigan, Colorado, Virginia, and Utah.
The Grassroots Campaigns Fellow reports to the Director of Grassroots Campaigns, and will work closely with HIAS' Community Engagement and Policy & Advocacy teams.
Essential Functions:
- Engages existing and potential advocates and activists in the states of Michigan, Colorado, Virginia, and Utah, connecting them to trainings, resources, and other actions.
- Conducts (or supports) outreach to potential community partners in the states of Michigan, Colorado, Virginia, and Utah
- Plans and coordinates all travel and logistics for three advocacy trainings that will take place between March and May 2020
- Contributes to the creation of guides, resources, and training calls for HIAS' base of activists and supporters
- Researches and maps issues and candidates in the 2020 election, particularly in the states of Michigan, Colorado, Virginia, and Utah.
- Connects synagogues to the HIAS Welcome Campaign and to resources for congregations, particularly in Michigan, Colorado Virginia, and Utah.
- Where relevant, connects Jewish community advocates in Michigan, Colorado, Virginia, and Utah to interfaith advocacy efforts for refugees, and assists in establishing interfaith partnerships.
- Diligently records and updates data and supporter contact information
- Assists in other HIAS grassroots campaigns projects and Community Engagement department efforts, as assigned.
Qualifications and Requirements:
- Undergraduate degree
- Previous experience as a community organizer, whether in a paid or volunteer role.
- Knowledge of/comfort working in the Jewish community, particularly with social justice organizations, synagogues. Knowledge of the Jewish community in Michigan, Colorado, Virginia, or Utah a plus.
- Exceptional interpersonal, oral and written communication skills. Someone who loves talking to people, getting curious about their interests, and inspiring them to action.
- Excellent attention to detail and ability to work under tight deadlines, with a commitment to high quality standards.
