In service of that mission, in 2019, 2020, and beyond, MoveOn will drive impactful, movement-connected, multichannel, nimble campaigns aimed at impact.


MoveOn's new Email Experience Manager will be the CEO of making sure MoveOn's email program is getting the best engagement rates, presenting the most compelling content, is enhanced with the best visuals and most interactivity, in the service of our campaigns. This role will oversee and ensure the overall health of our email list, including growth, retention, and experience.

 

Responsibilities:

  • Ensure MoveOn's email program is maximizing deliverability, and minimizing spam placement, through the latest and best-tested list management strategies.
  • Test and adopting new strategies and features to maximize engagement, esp for Gmail.
  • Manage the email welcome series experienced by all new MoveOn members with a goal of maximizing subscriber retention.
  • Run a program to re-engage lapsed email subscribers.
  • Work with the best analysts in the business to develop segmentation strategies that improve engagement and deliverability.
  • Coordinate with non-email teams for creative re-engagement strategies.
  • Own design changes and other visual enhancements to individual emails and templates.
  • Design and execute a training program for campaigns staff to maximize latest email production tools.
  • Keep MoveOn staff up to date on how we're doing with email deliverability and engagement and make recommendations for how we can tweak our audiences and our email program to improve performance.

A successful candidate will:

  • Stretch the limits of our toolset and serve as the in-house expert on the ActionKit emailer and Movable Ink.
  • Be able to keep a birds eye view of MoveOn's mailstream, assessing recurring emails, automated emails, templates, etc., and monitoring new drafts to recommend email experience or list practice improvements.
  • Work hand in hand with our best in class analysis team to rapidly test and evaluate new innovations.
  • Know how to make use of member personal and action data to increase personalization across our entire email program and potentially differentiate streams or content for members who take different types of action, new members, etc.
  • Be able to work both independently and in group settings, from driving your own tests from design through implementation and analysis, to supporting, approving, and refining others' tests.
  • Be willing and able to build relationships and work across teams, understanding that part of their job is to successfully organize internal team members.
  • Have a strong attention to detail and a commitment to error-free work.
  • Be able to pair creative instincts with analysis of action and fundraising performance data to optimize programs. 

Required skills and experience:

  • 4+ years of experience managing email programs, including skills like email design, engagement optimization, inbox placement, welcome series, re-engagement tactics, etc.
    • Experience in campaign style email writing and optimization is strongly preferred.
  • Direct experience producing emails in one of the following: ActionKit, EveryAction, BSD Tools, NGP, SilverLight or a comparable application.
    • Expertise in the following tools is strongly preferred: ActionKit, Movable Ink, Litmus, redash. 
  • Experience improving deliverability rates for large email programs.
  • Experience working with ISPs, deliverability consultants, and in-house testing to ensure strong inbox placement and reliable and consistent delivery of emails across major email providers.
  • Experience managing multiple projects and delivering work products at a fast pace.
  • Must be adept in writing and editing HTML.
    • Additional experience using SQL is preferred.


Reports to: Chief of Member Experience

Location: Position may be based anywhere in the continental United States.  May require occasional travel.  

Classification, Salary, and Benefits: Full-time, competitive salary including benefits such as 100%-employer-paid premiums for medical, dental, and vision insurance for all staff and their children; 401k plan with employer contribution, employer-paid premiums for life insurance; four weeks accrued paid vacation time per year; 18 weeks of paid parental leave (birth, adoption, foster care placement of a child), 10 days accrued paid sick time; 10 staff holidays, professional development budget of $1,000, monthly cell phone and internet reimbursement of $175 per month, home office subsidy, and provide everything needed for a home office.
