[jobsthatareLEFT by GAIN] News Voices: Colorado Manager for Free Press

Free Press is a national nonprofit that fights to save Net Neutrality, achieve affordable internet access for all, uplift the voices of people of color in the media, challenge old and new media gatekeepers to serve the public interest, end unwarranted surveillance, defend press freedom and reimagine local journalism.

We are launching News Voices: Colorado, a two-year initiative that invests in building the capacity of local newsrooms and communities to transform Colorado's media ecosystem and improve local news and information across the state. The manager, in collaboration with the Colorado Media Project, will focus on engaging Colorado residents, community leaders, and journalists to work collectively to envision, strengthen, and transform local news.   The manger will develop relationships with potential partners and allies, manage public forums and other events, coordinate community outreach, and facilitate workshops and collaborative projects based on the needs and assets of local communities, with an emphasis on engaging communities underserved by local news, including people of color, women, and youth.

The typical starting salary for a manager at Free Press is $55,000–65,000.  Starting salary is negotiated based on the selected candidate's qualifications and experience.

We're committed to recruiting and retaining creative, ethical, smart and innovative people with a sense of humor. Accordingly, we also offer excellent benefits, including medical, vision, dental, and disability insurance; retirement benefits; health reimbursement, dependent care and commuter-expense accounts; and up-to-date IT systems that allow for flexible work locations. Oh, and we have this crazy idea that employees do better work if they have time to enjoy life with friends and family, so we offer a total of nine weeks of paid time off each year.

Applications will be accepted on a rolling basis and we encourage candidates to submit applications by February 14, 2020. This search will remain open until the position is filled. The ideal candidate will be available to begin work in March 2020.  Learn more and apply here.

Free Press provides reasonable accommodations for the application, interview, or any other aspect of the employee selection process to applicants with disabilities. Please e-mail amartyn@freepress.net to request an accommodation.

Free Press Is an Equal Opportunity Employer. We value excellence and diversity in our workforce. People of color, women, people with disabilities, lesbian, gay, bisexual, queer, transgender, gender-nonconforming and formerly incarcerated individuals are strongly encouraged to apply.
