About The Democratic Party of Wisconsin: For the next four years, Wisconsin state politics will carry an almost unprecedented intensity and level of historical significance. Wisconsin faces a pivotal local and state Supreme Court race in the spring of 2020, will host the Democratic National Convention in 2020, and will be a – maybe THE – critical swing state in the 2020 presidential election. The 2020 state legislative elections will also shape redistricting in 2021, which will determine the state's political future for a decade to come. And in 2022, the state will hold deeply competitive and consequential statewide elections, including for Governor and US Senator.
The Opportunity: The Democratic Party of Wisconsin is looking for a Digital Organizing Director to grow and scale the impact of our organizing and communication programs. The Digital Organizing Director will report to the Organizing Director and coordinate with DPW's Digital Director and Communications Director. This position will lead DPW's efforts to support the organizing goals through email, text, and social media. As the leader of our Digital Organizing team, you will have the opportunity to draft and develop a plan to help deliver victory in the premiere 2020 battleground state.
A strong candidate for this position will think creatively about how to inspire people through email, text, and social media to take actions that will organize their communities and empower them to take action online and at the doors.
Job Responsibilities:
• Develop and implement our Digital Organizing plan, integrating the plan into existing organizing and DPW HQ structures.
• Advise the senior management team on the structure, needs, and overall Digital Organizing strategy.
• Collaborate with colleagues to create goals, objectives, and systems.
• Organize message amplification systems across the state through systemic digital community and content creation.
• Recruit new volunteers and prospects for our on-the-ground Organizing team members to help empower them to take action.
• Effectively manage remote volunteers to execute broader organizing goals.
• Provide support and training to existing Organizing staff to supplement the Digital Organizing program and their organizing goals.
• Work in partnership with the Data Director to ensure that data from email and tools are integrated into the campaign databases to enable program and messaging analytics.
Qualifications (Required):
• Desire to fight for Democratic values and candidates.
• Excel at working with distributed volunteer networks and empowering them to achieve our goals.
• Strong interpersonal communication skills are a must. Namely, can connect with others, quickly gain trust & motivate volunteers, staff, community members, and coalition partners, including in particular across lines of difference.
• Experience using and training individuals on texting tools (Hustle, Spoke, Shadow, etc.), predictive dialer tools, virtual phone banking and canvassing tools (e.g. Reach and MiniVAN).
• Strong written and verbal communication skills with the ability to relate to large swaths of voters while also communicating to narrower audiences on specific issues.
• Skilled at creating high-quality content, including graphics, video, and text, rapidly and on-message.
• Growth mindset: ability to take and implement feedback.
• Relentlessly goal-oriented: enjoys working toward and achieving ambitious goals; willing to go over, under, around, or through any obstacle that gets in the way of meeting goals.
• Cultural competency: able to build relationships and collaborate with colleagues, voters, and volunteers who identify as POCI, and across lines of difference.
• Ability to work long days with irregular hours. You have the capacity and willingness to work long hours during peak season, rolling up your sleeves and getting the work done.
Qualifications (Preferred):
• Experience leading a Digital Organizing team and writing a plan/strategy around Digital Organizing.
• Experience A/B message and audience segment testing in emails and digital organizing tools.
• Knowledge of relevant pieces of digital organizing data that can be programmatically analyzed.
• Ability to standardize and upload digital organizing data, including the ability to clean and/or manipulate the data.
• Knowledge of Wisconsin/Midwestern politics is a plus.
• While campaign experience is a plus, we are also willing to consider highly qualified candidates with non-campaign backgrounds.
• Spanish language fluency
