Position: Project Manager — Drug Pricing Campaign


Location: Washington, DC


Status: Exempt, Full-time


Reports to: Director

 


Position Summary

Launched in 2019, Accountable.US is a nonpartisan, nonprofit watchdog group exposing corruption across all levels of government and holding our policymakers accountable. The projects at Accountable.US use traditional research tactics, such as public records requests, financial disclosure review, voting record analysis, and more to identify who is influencing public policy debates and why. 


Accountable.US seeks a project manager to develop, execute, and oversee a proactive rapid response and longer-term research and media relations campaign focused on building momentum for progressive policy solutions that will bring down the cost of prescription drugs.


The project manager will be responsible for working alongside senior leadership to craft overall project strategy and manage the execution of that strategy. They will lead media relations efforts, write press documents, communicate with reporters, and serve as the project's primary on-the-record spokesperson. They will also work with staff and consultants to develop compelling research, paid media, and digital properties that drive earned media.


This position is based in Washington, DC. Salary is competitive and commensurate with experience.


Essential Responsibilities and Tasks


  • Develop, execute, and regularly update strategic plan for work related to drug pricing;

  • Identify rapid response and other communications opportunities and use them to drive earned media;

  • Guide project's paid media efforts, coordinating work of consultants and review of creative when warranted;

  • Serve as project's primary on-the-record spokesperson;

  • Manage day-to-day strategic and media relations activities, including drafting press materials, contact with national media, communications planning, reviewing research documents, overseeing paid media efforts, and other activities as needed;

  • Work with digital consultants and staff to develop and execute any digital elements (social media, shareable graphics, email, etc.) that could help the project succeed;

  • Track and identify opportunities related to Congressional activity;

  • Interface with issue area and regional allies as needed;

  • Coordinate with research team (and consultants as needed) on rapid response and other research documents;

  • Work closely with research team on public records research, including submission of Freedom of Information Act and state open records requests, and review of responsive records;

  • Prepare regular updates for managers;

  • Perform other duties as assigned.


Required Education, Experience, Knowledge, Skills and Ability


  • Bachelor's degree;

  • 5-8 years experience in issue advocacy communications or research;

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills;

  • Experience managing multi-layered projects, staff and consultants;

  • Comfort with serving as an on-the-record spokesperson;

  • Ability to juggle competing priorities and deadlines; and

  • Proven track record for being a self-starter.

  • Knowledge of transparency and government relations and background in issue advocacy preferred;

  • Experience working with research systems and structures;

  • Exceptional communicator; and

  • Extremely well-organized, detail-oriented and analytical.
