Position Overview:

Tom Steyer 2020 is seeking a highly skilled political professional to join our National Communications team. The Regional Communications Desk is responsible for the development of the communications strategy and will work to raise Tom Steyer's profile and message throughout several Super Tuesday States. The ideal candidate is dynamic and organized, with the ability to work effectively both within a team and autonomously simultaneously on multiple projects. Candidates must have strong communication skills, a commitment to progressive change, great work ethic and professionalism. Regional Communications Desks report to the HQ Communications Desk. 

This person will:

  • Envision and develop the overall communications strategy in several Super Tuesday states to ensure that Tom Steyer's message and profile are raised. 
  • Contextualize national messaging initiatives for state and local audiences, and develop ideas for earned media hooks around those initiatives. 
  • Coordinate with the HQ Communications Desk for message cohesion across departments, information distribution channels, and created content.
  • Oversee the issues and research program for the states, and develop a Rapid Response program specific for them. 

Qualifications, Knowledge, and Skills:

  • 5-7 years of experience in political campaigns, crisis communications, or a public relations firm. 
  • Strong working knowledge of all Google Drive, Slack applications.
  • On-the-record experience.
  • Ability to manage multiple people remotely and across time zones. 
  • Tact and professionalism in handling assignments involving work of a confidential nature.
  • Detail-oriented with the ability to produce high-quality work under tight deadlines.
  • Excellent organizational and multitasking skills, analytical problem solving skills.
  • Strong oral and written communication skills, demonstrated ability to communicate with others effectively.
  • Ability to re-prioritize and proven ability to succeed in a fast-moving environment.      
  • Experience in public policy, working for the office of an elected official
  • Experience in communications work within the state 
  • Experience working with key communities within the Democratic coalition.
