Position Description:

The Senior Digital Organizing Manager will lead our long-term digital powerbuilding efforts, working with our digital, communications, electoral and organizing teams to develop strategies that combine the power of both traditional organizing and digital organizing to bring new people into the movement and increase Community Change/Action and our grassroot partners' power.

The Senior Digital Organizing Manager will work across teams and closely with our organizing teams to develop organizing strategies that build and expand our base of supporters. The Senior Digital Organizing Manager will lead and develop trainings for and with our partners to empower the field with digital organizing strategies and tools. A successful candidate in this role will be flexible, innovative and data driven with a strong understanding of using digital tools and best practices to organize a base of supporters and build digital institutional knowledge and infrastructure at a national scale.

Principal Responsibilities:

  • Serve as strategic liaison to organizing teams, working consistently to build digital organizing campaigns/tactics to complement traditional organizing work. This includes:
    • Representing the Digital team in all relevant meetings/gatherings
    • Leading the development of long-term digital organizing work and how that work compliments digital rapid response work
    • Training organizing team members and partners on digital organizing strategies and tactics
  • Work with organizers and partners to develop comprehensive digital strategies with the goal of building long-term communities and power around our issues; strategies may include digital advertising campaigns, social media engagement, creating content, list- building, and other innovative digital organizing strategies to mobilize our audiences and build our base
  • Lead the creation of strong email, SMS, digital content, and social media communications plans to build long term movements, engage supporters in campaign activities, promote grassroots events, and maximize list growth across digital channels, geographic regions and issue areas
  • Work with the Digital Team, the larger Communications team, Organizing team, and partner groups to develop comprehensive digital organizing, engagement, and advocacy strategies.
  • Explore and experiment with creative digital organizing tactics for engaging audiences on social media, and via email and SMS channels and connecting back to on-the-ground organizing work.
  • Draft a variety of engaging content, including SMS alerts, blog posts, social media copy and graphics, and other content as needed.
  • Manage relationships with partner organizations and identify opportunities for collaboration.
  • Regularly report to staff, internal editorial board, and other stakeholders about progress of campaigns and overall growth.

Qualifications:

  • 3-5 years' experience in traditional organizing, communications and/or digital organizing for a nonprofit or advocacy organization or political campaign.
  • Strong writing and verbal communication skills.
  • Self-starter, data-driven, with organizing experience (both online and offline) and an eagerness to experiment, learn and develop new ideas
  • Proven success in using online tools such as Facebook, Twitter, email, SMS (broadcast and/or peer-to-peer) for organizing
  • Background developing and leading trainings and comfortable speaking in front of large and small groups of people
  • Demonstrable experience with project management, goal-setting, metrics tracking, and reporting
  • Commitment to the advancement of progressive causes
  • Ability to work well in a dynamic, fast-paced and collaborative team environment.
  • Willingness and desire to learn new technologies, tactics, and strategies.
  • Close attention to detail and ability to adapt quickly as projects change and evolve.
  • Specific experience around practical application of online technology and new media tools in community organizing and issue advocacy campaigns.
  • Previous experience working with coalitions and distributed teams successfully is a plus.
  • Ability to write and speak Spanish is a plus, but not required.
  • Commitment to economic, race and gender justice essential.

This person reports to: Director of Digital Strategy

Classification: Community Change recognizes a staff bargaining unit affiliated with IFPTE Local 70, a union for non-profit workers. This position is included in Community Change's bargaining unit and covered under the terms of the collective bargaining agreement.

Travel Requirements: Ability and willingness to travel approximately 25% of the time.

Salary & benefits: $60,000 – $70,000 annual salary. Community Change also offers an excellent benefits package, which includes 4 weeks of annual paid vacation; additional paid holiday leave between December 24 and January 1; 8% employer contribution to retirement account after six months of employment (and 3% employer contribution for the first 6 months); and a choice of generous health insurance plans
