Annie's List is a political action committee whose vision is to achieve equality for women by changing the face of power in Texas.

 

We do this by recruiting, training, supporting, and electing pro-choice women who are dedicated to advancing the self-determination, health, safety and financial security of Texas women and their families.

 

By electing pro-choice women and changing the face of power in Texas, Annie's List promotes a progressive agenda that:

      Protects reproductive rights for women

      Provides affordable and accessible health care for all Texas families

      Creates equitable wages and working conditions for women

      Prevents violence against women and children and assists those who do become victims

      Supports quality public education for all children

      Advancing the inclusion and protection of marginalized and disenfranchised Texans in all aspects of public life

 

The Deputy Political Director is responsible for assisting the Political Director in the creation, implementation, and execution of the political program at Annie's List. This includes working with candidates around the state, assisting with the endorsement process, acting as a general consultant to candidates, and working to elect every endorsed candidate in the 2020 election cycle.

 

Our mission is not only to win races, but to build a bench of candidates and political staff who are ready to do so. Annie's List operates much like a full-service political consultancy and provides a broad range of services to candidates, campaigns, incumbents, and political staff. The Deputy Political Director will play a critical role providing support to candidates and their campaign staff. This job is based in Austin, TX and is a full time permanent position. 

 

Major Responsibilities

  • Tracking campaign progress 
  • Electoral data analysis and research
  • VAN research, training, reporting
  • Creating and maintaining strong candidate, vendor and ally relationships
  • Assisting with candidate recruitment
  • Creation of campaign budgets, field plans, and media strategies
  • Supervise political intern(s)
  • Develop political briefs
  • Manage basic communications with political stakeholders
  • Train when needed at any of Annie's List training programs and assist with curriculum creation and updating
  • Track and act as a general consultant with campaigns
  • Support training programs by: 
    • Coordinating participation and scheduling with presenters
    •  Preparing and delivering presentations on topics related to field, finance, and communications
  • Represent Annie's List at events supporting our mission and our candidates
  • Coordinate outreach with allied organizations under the direction of the Political Director
  • Curate and/or conduct political research to support current and future candidates
  • Conduct call time with candidates along with the creation of call time lists for endorsed candidates
  • Act as a general consultant for campaigns and oversee campaign infrastructure creation
  • Track internal documentation for endorsements

 

Required Skills and Attributes Include:

  • Minimum of 1 cycle of experience as a senior campaign staffer
  • Ability to travel and work non-traditional hours
  • The ability to manage staff, contractors, and volunteers
  •  Advanced knowledge of VAN, NGP, and Google Apps
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills
  • Alignment with Annie's List progressive values
  • Ability to function in a fast-paced, fluid environment
  • Ability to solve problems and manage time
  • Experience in a trusted position on a competitive campaign
  • Self-starter with the ability to work independently
  • Detail oriented
  • Proven commitment to excellence in the workplace
