Reports To: Communications Lead, Health Care Voter Bus Tour

Purpose: Health Care Voter Bus Tour

 

Position Summary

Health Care Voter is hiring a press secretary for a national bus tour. This is a temporary position that will run from 3/2/2020 - 5/8/2020, including time planning time before the tour and wrap up after the tour concludes. The bus tour will start in San Francisco and end in Washington, D.C. The Press Secretary will travel on the bus for the duration of the tour, and will be responsible for driving the day-to-day communications operation for the tour and coordinating with the Health Care Voter digital and communications teams (who are based in D.C.). This person will focus on coordinating and building local press outreach at tour stops to help amplify the message of the tour.

 

As a Press Secretary you'll:

  • Work with Hub and Health Care Voter teams to execute the tour's overall communications strategy 

  • Coordinate local press outreach, pitch reporters, and wrangle press at events

  • Facilitate interviews with VIPs, partners, and other surrogates

  • Manage the distribution of communications materials for the tour, including press advisories, press releases, editorial board memos, op-eds, and other press materials

  • Coordinate press logistics at events

  • Prepare surrogates for the tour and events, including providing media trainings as surrogates join the bus tour

About you:

  • You have two to three years of communications experience

  • You are an excellent writer and can communicate effectively with diverse audiences

  • You are extremely well organized, detail-oriented, and analytical

  • You have an excellent understanding of earned media

  • You are eager to adapt to the latest technology and employ creative communications

  • You have an entrepreneurial spirit and an ability to solve problems effectively

  • You have strong interpersonal skills and an ability to work well on a team

  • You have a sense of humor and a willingness to work hard

  • You are committed to a just, inclusive, and robust economy that delivers opportunity and dignity to all

 

In addition, it would be a bonus if:

  • You have prior experience working on a campaign or an advocacy organization

  • You have experience interacting with reporters and directly pitching press

  • You are familiar with how to communicate about health care
