Communications Manager
Campaign for Accountability (CfA), a nonprofit government watchdog organization focused on public accountability, is seeking a Communications Manager to support our mission to hold government officials and corporations accountable.
CfA is a 501(c)(3) non-profit, nonpartisan watchdog organization that uses research, litigation and aggressive communications to expose misconduct and malfeasance in public life.
Our current priorities include holding federal and state officials accountable, corporate responsibility, consumer protection, and reproductive rights. We run the Google Transparency Project. To learn more about CfA, please visit our website: https://campaignforaccountability.org.
CfA is looking for an experienced storyteller who knows how to use social and conventional media to communicate with reporters and reach new audiences. The Communications Manager will also support CfA's research inquiries into state politicians and large technology companies. The ideal candidate will have experience with media relations, social media, a keen understanding of policymaking, and strong written and analytical skills.
The position is located in Washington, D.C.
Essential Responsibilities
- Draft and edit press releases, blog posts, newsletters, and email updates.
- Manage and grow CfA's social media presence.
- Direct CfA's website.
- Compile and distribute news clips.
- Conduct background research on federal officials and state politicians.
- Monitor campaign contributions and lobbying expenditures.
- Analyze documents received through open records requests.
- Fact-check reports and databases.
- Execute additional duties as required.
Qualifications
- 1-3 years of experience working in government, advocacy, journalism, or politics.
- Experience with media relations, press release writing, and social media.
- Ability to synthesize complex legal material into easily understandable language.
- Exceptional writing, research, and verbal communications skills.
- Detail oriented with a commitment to accuracy.
- Strong organizational and project-management abilities.
- Self-starter and able to work independently.
- High degree of professional ethics and responsibility.
- Graphic design experience is a plus.
