NEW HAMPSHIRE DEMOCRATIC PARTY INTERNSHIP OPPORTUNITY


The New Hampshire Democratic Party (NHDP) is seeking highly qualified, motivated, and enthusiastic interns to help Democrats win. This internship provides students a hands-on learning experience in one of the most exciting political states in the nation. Positions are awarded through a competitive application process. Those selected will work directly with party officials, staff, and elected officials in several capacities including communications, field organizing, fundraising, and operations. Applications are accepted and granted on a rolling basis.

SKILLS AND QUALIFICATIONS:
  • Motivated, able to succeed on a team or a solo project.

  • Detail-oriented and meticulous.

  • Demonstrated interest in Democratic politics, with sound judgment.

  • Able to work efficiently and manage a task list.

  • Outstanding writing and verbal skills.

ADDITIONAL DETAILS FOR ALL NHDP INTERNSHIPS:

Applicants must be enrolled students and be able to commit to 10+ hours per week for 3+ months, and able to transport themselves to and from the NHDP offices at 105 N State Street, Concord, NH. Applications will be accepted on a rolling basis. Internships are paid at $15/hour. Supporter housing is available for full-time applicants.


DEPARTMENT DESCRIPTIONS 



Finance & Operations Department


The Finance Department is in charge of all aspects of the state party's fundraising, financial reporting and vital records. This includes prospecting for new donors, updating and expanding our current donor database, and keeping our records accurate. This department is the lead for all fundraising aspects such as helping planning small and large fundraising events, assisting the Finance Committee in generating new revenues, and establishing good connections with current and previous donors. Some examples of fundraising events are our two large fundraisers, the McIntyre-Shaheen 100 Club Dinner and the Kennedy-Clinton Dinner as well as other small-dollar events with other surrogates.  The Finance Department coordinates with the Executive Director and the Operations Department to ensure that all records are accurate for reporting reasons.


The Operations Department's chief responsibilities are the upkeep of NHDP HQ and managing the NHDP's bank accounts and bookkeeping. The Operations Director and Deputy Operations Director keep the office clean, organized and stocked with requisite supplies; pay bills, oversee budgets and manage relationships with vendors; process incoming funds; staff the front desk, process the mail and answer the phone; and handle miscellaneous issues. 



Finance & Operations Department Intern Responsibilities

Working closely with the Finance Director and Finance Committee in planning the major annual fundraisers) as well as other events.

Assisting with management of donor database

Calling supporters to invite them to fundraising events

Execute donor research on prospective donors.

Answering the phone and greeting visitors and directing them appropriately.

Making bank deposits.

Assist with office maintenance by keeping stock of supplies

Process incoming and outgoing mail.

Assist with various tasks as they arise



Political and Organizing Department


The main focus of the Political and Organizing Department is working with and mobilizing our local town and county committees.  We have members of our team travel to as many town and county committee meetings as possible each month.  We help coordinate town and county caucuses that happen every two years to elect each committee's leadership for the next two years.We also work with the House and Senate Caucus to recruit candidates for offices up and down the ballot. We create and conduct trainings across the state to make sure activists have the tools and skills to organize themselves for state and special elections. We ensure that our databases are all up to date with the most accurate information for upcoming elections. The Political and Organizing Department also acts as a liason to the NHDP Rules and Platform Committees.   


Political and Organizing Intern Responsibilities

Recruiting and supporting candidates for local and municipal office.

Attending town and county committee meetings.

Coordinating local events with town and county committees. 

Organizing and presenting at various training

Supporting activities for the annual State Convention. 

Reporting campaign activities and progress.

Knocking on doors and making phone calls for local elections. 

Maintaining our databases.

Researching candidates or legislative votes. 



Communications/Digital Departments


The Communications Department creates, coordinates, and amplifies all aspects of the New Hampshire Democratic Party and legislative Democrats' messaging. This includes putting out releases, media advisories, and In Case You Missed Its (ICYMI) among other communication with the Press. The Communications Department controls all social media activities of the party including its Twitter and Facebook and works with political figures and activists to put out Op-Eds and Letters to the Editor. This department also produces two weekly newsletters and daily news clips. Members of this department are involved with all discussions and decisions regarding Democrats' messaging in New Hampshire.


Communications Intern Responsibilities 

Writing letters to the editor.

Helping with research projects.

Putting together media coverage roundups after events.

Assisting with the preparation and running of earned media events. 

Drafting social media posts.

Monitoring various state and federal legislation.
