Amber Hewett for State Representative in Massachusetts' 1st Essex District (Amesbury, Newburyport, Salisbury) is seeking a campaign manager. 


About the candidate: Amber is a bold and progressive candidate running to represent Massachusetts' 1st Essex District with visionary, proactive, and principled leadership. Driven by a fierce passion for civic engagement and tired of watching opportunities pass us by, Amber is ready to gather her community around solutions. She will fight for healthcare and criminal justice reform, universal childcare and improving education funding, climate action and public transit infrastructure, expanding reproductive rights and protections for the LGBTQIA+ community, strengthening small businesses, and ensuring safe and dignified housing is available to people of all ages and income levels. About the race: The 1st Essex District is made up of Amesbury, Newburyport, and Salisbury. It is on the coast, includes the northern end of Plum Island, and surrounds the mouth of the Merrimack River. It is roughly 40 miles north of Boston (last stop on the Commuter Rail) and borders New Hampshire. Amber is in the fourth generation of her family to call Newburyport home, giving her deep roots in the community and an unwavering commitment to its future. She is the only Democrat challenging a third-term incumbent Republican, who won the seat in 2014 by just 10 votes. Since then, Kelcourse has faced two serious challenges and has been able to hold his seat by 6% (2016) and 8% (2018). 

Overview: The campaign manager oversees all aspects of the day-to-day operations of the campaign. They will work closely with the candidate to ensure the campaign is meeting or exceeding all goals in a timely fashion. The ideal candidate will share the campaign's progressive values and be committed to raising the profile of bold policy solutions. They will be able to multitask, ensure the candidate is using her time efficiently and effectively, and be comfortable in a fast-paced environment with a demanding work schedule.


Responsibilities include but are not limited to:

  • Manage day-to-day operation of the campaign

  • Manage the candidate's schedule and staff pertinent meetings and events

  • Manage the campaign's budget and spending priorities 

  • Develop and execute short- and long-term goals for fundraising, voter contact, and volunteer recruitment

  • Manage relationships with volunteers, vendors, consultants, and political partners

  • Serve as the campaign's contact for press, help in drafting press releases, and prepare the candidate for press opportunities 

  • Oversee campaign social media and digital outreach


Qualifications include:

  • At least one cycle of previous campaign experience and familiarity with field organizing and finance

  • Strong interpersonal skills, including ability to communicate effectively, respectfully, and diplomatically with people of all ages, backgrounds, and skill levels

  • Strong organizational skills, including the ability to keep multiple projects on track at the same time

  • Experience or familiarity with NGP, and/or other related voter contact and fundraising database tools and platforms

  • Ability to work campaign hours, which regularly include nights and weekends
