Organizing and Electoral Internship Description Summer 2020
About Us: Planned Parenthood Pennsylvania PAC (PP PA PAC) is the independent, non-partisan, political arm of Planned Parenthood Pennsylvania Advocates. PP PA PAC is funded solely by private contributions, with the explicit purpose to elect pro-choice and pro-family planning state level candidates to office. PP PA PAC also encourages supporters of all parties to become involved in the political process through the funding of on the ground field activities to benefit endorsed candidates.
Position Description: PP PA operates a robust External Affairs department including several volunteer programs to give our supporters a variety of ways to engage with and support our work. Interns will assist the department in implementing communications and legislative strategies concerning reproductive health and rights, which includes: family planning, abortion, and sexuality education. The intern will also assist in coordinating PP PA's network of volunteers, organizing grassroots activities to support PP PA legislative and electoral priorities, and community engagement – ensuring that the work is inclusive and engaging marginalized groups.
The Interns will work with PPPA Advocates/PAC throughout the summer, with a flexible start date in May. This is a paid internship. The hourly rate is $10/hour for a maximum of 20 hours per week, including some evening and weekend hours.

*Please note that as a result of COVID-19, the responsibilities below will be carried out using digital organizing tools. Interns will work from home to start - but we hope to be back in the office and in communities as soon as we are safely able to.
Responsibilities:
● Mobilize Pennsylvania voters around reproductive health issues through community engagement and grassroots organizing tactics
● Assist in planning and executing all advocacy and political outreach efforts, including but not limited to: phone banking, text banking, canvassing, relational organizing, fundraising, press conferences, community forums, rallies, lobbying visits and other online digital engagement efforts.
● Conduct voter outreach and education efforts to register voters
● Assist and participate in recruitment and outreach efforts to increase our supporter base
● Collaborate with new and existing stakeholders – including elected officials, coalition partners and volunteers – to expand our efforts
● Build meaningful relationships with non-traditional community organizations that are led by and lead the work for the communities they serve through attendance at events, collaboration and providing support as needed
● Craft communications for volunteers and activists, such as newsletters and email updates
● Assist in the management of the Health Center Advocacy Program (HCAP) including: engaging health center visitors in advocacy efforts, training staff and volunteers on best practices, collecting patient stories and supporter sign-ups to strengthen our advocacy work, and ensure all data collected is properly tracked
● Disseminate information about issues pertinent to PP PA through a variety of methods, such as Health Center Advocacy and community events
● Maintain volunteer and supporter data systems, including entering and uploading all data and volunteer timesheets
● Assist department staff with day-to-day operations and other duties as assigned
Position Requirements:
● Commitment to reproductive health and rights for all Pennsylvanians and to Planned Parenthood's mission
● Commitment to develop new opportunities to engage underrepresented populations and Planned Parenthood patients
● Commitment to racial equity, inclusivity and embodying intersectionality
● Willingness to participate actively in all planned community engagement and grassroots organizing tactics to mobilize Pennsylvanians around reproductive health issues, in addition to other social justice issues as applicable
● Ability to work independently and within a team, well organized and self-motivated
● Commitment to 20 hours a week in an administrative office and/or health center, with flexibility that suits both the intern and the office staff.
● Desire to mobilize Pennsylvania voters around reproductive health issues through community engagement and grassroots organizing tactics
● Possess computer skills, including data entry, research skills; attention to detail
● Outstanding verbal, written, interpersonal communication skills
● Working knowledge of social media sites including Facebook, Instagram, Twitter, and YouTube
● Strong computer skills including Microsoft office suite, experience with data entry preferred
● Solid research skills and detail-oriented
● Must have access to a car or be confident in ability to take public transit throughout the Southeast PA region
