Assembly Democratic Caucus Political Director 

2020 is an incredibly exciting cycle to be in Wisconsin and the Assembly Democratic Caucus' Political Director will be in the heart of the action. We are fighting to maintain our Governor's veto and have plans to take the fight to vulnerable Republican members of the Assembly. Our efforts this year will be of national significance, with our candidates providing crucial top of the ticket support by running effective campaigns in their Assembly districts. 


The Political Director will serve as the primary liaison between candidate campaigns, ADCC Executive director, and Assembly caucus leadership team. They will work as part of a collaborative team that includes the Executive Director and Finance Department.


Primary responsibilities include:


Campaign Plan Support: Work with the Executive Director and on-the-ground campaign managers to develop highly-tailored campaign plans for critical districts and work with those Assembly campaigns to implement and track their progress. This will require conducting ward and district analysis to determine appropriate vote goals and target universes. Working with the campaigns, design, and implement multi-faceted voter contact programs that are flexible and responsive to the unique challenges of COVID-19.


General Consulting for Campaigns: Work day-to-day with campaigns on strategic considerations, from partner group activation to VAN management. Provide training on volunteer recruitment, persuasion scripts, and candidate motivation. Work with campaigns to implement voter contact program outlined in the campaign plan, and assist in the writing of all voter contact scripts. Political Director will exercise final approval on scripts.  Political Director will also connect leadership and caucus members with candidates and campaigns. Finally, they will analyze the need for and availability of campaign resources in each district. 


Tracking and Campaign Management: Work with campaigns to track field and fundraising on a weekly and daily basis. Produce reports on campaign progress for Executive Director and ADCC leadership team.


Finance: Work with ADCC Finance Director, Executive Director, and campaign managers to ensure that Assembly campaigns are properly implementing mutually agreed upon finance plans so campaign plan budgets are realistic. Focus on working with campaigns to boost and maintain cash on hand. 


Personnel Recruitment and Management:  The Political Director will train, and oversee qualified campaign managers to execute campaign and finance plans "on the ground" for critical campaigns. The Political Director should build a sense of community and teamwork across candidates, campaign staff, and ADCC staff to create a collegial atmosphere and ensure open communications to promulgate good ideas and develop collective best practices.


Additional responsibilities will include:

  • Building and maintaining relationship with county parties

  • Assist campaigns with the provision of resources such as data, talking points, and access to Leadership members.

  • Along with the Executive Director, work with legislators and legislative staff to leverage their expertise and volunteer assistance to help targeted candidates/campaigns.

  • Assist Executive Director and leadership team with candidate recruitment 


Needed Skills to do well in this position:

  • Ability to plan and careful utilize time and financial resources

  • Excellent oral and written communication skills 

  • Ability to work nights and weekends 

  • When safe, access to a car and available to drive for work 

  • Experience working on state legislative campaigns or other campaigns before, ideally in a campaign management position

  • Experience managing staff and/or interns

  • Ability to think outside the box 

  • Ability to work as a team

  • Familiarity and experience with voter and donor database systems


Compensation: This position will be paid $5,000 a month and will include a competitive benefits package including employer-paid health insurance.
