Position Summary:

The Elected Leadership (EL) team is responsible for inspiring, developing, and supporting our members to effectively pursue elected office as a path to help kids and their community. The Director, Candidate Development (Managing) will be responsible for developing and executing the strategic campaign elements of the EL Develop team. They will report to the Senior Director, EL Develop, supervise a team, and work closely with the other members of the EL team who have specialized campaign expertise such as fundraising, targeting, digital, and communications. Additionally, this position will monitor, coach, and track reporting from their team on campaign progress and handle the day-to-day tactical needs of a portfolio of campaigns across the country through online project management tools and team calls. This leader will focus their efforts on information intake from the team to ensure that appropriate information is flowing vertically to the Senior Director, and horizontally to other campaign coaches on the team. 

The Director, Candidate Development (Managing) will be the point person for any day-to-day needs their team encounters with supporting members and provide high-impact expertise to advance our members' skills and effectiveness and their personal leadership development.

Position Location: Flexible

Travel Requirements: 25-40%; dependent on position location. Travel will fluctuate based on election cycles and will depend on geographic distribution of candidates in the portfolio.

Responsibilities:

Team Management (40%)

  • Support the implementation and execution of program goals and initiatives
  • Directly supervise a team of 4-5 Directors, Candidate Development (DCDs) and 2-3 Associates, Candidate Development
  • Identify opportunities to increase leadership and impact of direct reports
  • Create and maintain a culture of professionalism, accountability, and high performance

Campaign Strategy and Development (20%)

  • Collaborate with DCDs, Director of Campaign Support, and Specialists to develop campaign plans, budgets and strategies.
  • Assist DCDs to coordinate candidate campaign filing and launch
  • Assist DCDs and candidates in rapid response and troubleshooting 
  • Support DCDs in coaching and leadership development of candidates

Evaluate and Analyze Data (20%)

  • Ensure the timely tracking, entry, and integrity of campaign and member data
  • Develop and/or refine systems to measure team effectiveness and drive the overall impact of the EL Develop team

Support Development of Campaign Training Materials (10%)

  • Provide insight and expertise on cutting edge campaign tools and innovative campaign strategies 
  • Work with Director, Campaign Support to cultivate opportunities to strengthen member leadership development and understanding of campaign best practices

Special Projects (10%)

  • Special projects as assigned by the Senior Director, EL Develop

 

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree or commensurate years of work experience
  • At least 6 years of professional, relevant experience
  • At least 4 campaign cycles
  • At least 2 campaign cycles as a campaign manager or senior leadership role
  • Proven ability to manage fast paced, impact driven work
  • Significant experience in campaign strategy and leadership development
  • Experience and success managing political teams to data-driven goals and impact
  • Highly effective communication, coaching, relationship building skills, and team building skills, with demonstrated experience across lines of difference
  • Ability to track and analyze metrics efficiently and effectively
  • Ability to work occasional weekends and evenings

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience with high-tech campaign tools including but not limited to: digital strategy, ad buys, media opportunities, new field and data techniques
  • Experience managing individuals in a geographically dispersed workplace and working with geographically dispersed teams
  • Comfortable operating and contributing in a fast paced, entrepreneurial environment
  • Effective relationship building skills
  • Strong, demonstrated commitment to diversity, equity and inclusion
  • Deep passion for educational equity and belief in LEE's mission and theory of change
