JOB ANNOUNCEMENT: Co-founder Opportunity/ DEPUTY DIRECTOR & EDITORIAL DIRECTOR
TYPE: Remote, part-time, 10-20 hours a week/flexible hours, co-founder positions.
WAGE: $20/hour —for 10-20 hours a week is equal to $800 - $1,600 a month initially. *We prefer the candidate for this position be a DC or Maryland resident.*

Through our platform, we hope to create a well-informed public—to inspire a group of citizens who can make clear choices regarding politics and neighborhood issues.
In 2019, Bloc by Block News: Maryland won seed funding to begin building its local news product. We're now looking for co-founders for two positions and we'll consider candidates of various backgrounds.

Candidate Qualifications:
- A major plus experience if you have in labor or community organizing; activism; or the inner workings of advocacy of social justice issues.
- Excellent understanding of communities on the ground.
- Sharp sense into local news without forgetting the people, institutions, and community-groups that inhabit the counties, towns, and neighborhoods that make up the news.
----- The Deputy Director Role in a nutshell ------ We are searching for a Deputy Director who is passionate about leading project teams, who is ready to step in and immediately get to systematizing operations, and who is able to use our organizational mission and values to nurture a dynamic team culture and open the door for new opportunities, partnerships, and funding. We are looking for someone who can deliver valuable organizational leadership to co-directors, interns, and partners with empathy and conviction.
----- The Editorial Director Role in a nutshell ------ We are searching for an Editorial Director who is passionate about local news and is excited to build our news organization's longterm and shortterm editorial strategy from the ground up. If you are excited about making a significant contribution to creating our editorial mission and values this role is for you. The right candidate for this position is someone who has significant experience with journalism industry standards and practices but can go deeper than the mainstream and know when to deviate from those rules.
