GRAPHIC DESIGN ASSOCIATE, FLORIDA DEMOCRATIC PARTY

The Florida Democratic Party (FDP) is seeking a Graphic Design Associate to be responsible for assisting in the design and implementation of digital and printed materials during the 2020 presidential campaign cycle. The Graphic Design Associate will work with the Digital Team to produce branded collateral and marketing materials that communicate the mission of FDP, build enthusiasm for the FDP brand, and compel people to get involved in the 2020 elections.

The Graphic Design Associate will report directly to the Creative Director. This is a full-time junior-level position and will require work during nontraditional hours (nights and weekends) and is based in Florida (Fort Lauderdale / Orlando / Tampa).

Please submit a resume and portfolio of prior graphic design work made for different social media platforms. Applications without a resume and portfolio will not be considered.

DESCRIPTION OF DUTIES
  • Create unique images and graphics for a variety of projects, including social media content, ads and email assets, flyers, visuals for events, merchandise and more.
  • Work directly with the Creative Director to determine needs and inform the design and direction of our materials.
  • Understand the different and unique aspects of design for social media platforms including Facebook, Instagram, Twitter, Snapchat, and TikTok.
  • Regularly develop unique graphic design templates that can be updated and altered as needed by non-technical staff for use on various social media platforms.
  • Grow and train a team of content creators composed of volunteers.
  • Work with various departments to gather requirements and research as necessary.
  • Other duties as assigned by the Creative Director.
  • Be available to work a 6-day work week.

QUALIFICATIONS AND SKILLS
  • A bachelor's degree in visual arts, design, emerging media, digital communications, or another related field desirable.
  • Highly proficient in Adobe Creative Suite (particularly Photoshop and Illustrator) and Canva.
  • Active user on multiple social media platforms.
  • Experiencing designing printed and digital materials of different sizes and formats.
  • Ability to quickly generate mockups in line with the tight timelines and other limitations warranted by a modern presidential campaign.
  • Ability to self manage and thrive in a high pressure, fast paced campaign environment sometimes requiring night and weekend work.
  • Close attention to detail, especially with spelling and grammar.
  • Patient when given edits and open to feedback.
  • Sense of intuition when working with non-technical staff to best balance and understand needs, expectations, and capacity.
  • Strong organizational skills.
  • Video editing skills are a plus.
  • Diligent Work Ethic: Our team will work long hours, especially as we get closer to election day. We will prioritize working smart, but we will also work hard.
  • Good Listener: Many of our colleagues don't come from a technical background. They won't always know what's possible or even what to ask us for. Part of your job is to listen closely, use common sense, and discern their true needs so that we can solve real problems.
  • Positive Attitude: Even on tough days, our team needs to remain optimistic and upbeat. This will make us more productive, and, to an extent, positive attitude is a self-fulfilling prophecy.
  • Share Democratic Values: Our mission is to elect all of our Democratic candidates up and down the ballot. You need to share a passion for this mission. If you are inclined to support Republicans, to split your ticket, or are disengaged from politics, then this isn't the job for you.
  • Creativity!

LOGISTICS
  • Must have a valid driver's license, reliable mode of transportation and the ability to travel at times throughout the state for more than a day at a time.
  • Must have access to a working smartphone and laptop.
  • Office hours are 9:30 – 6:30, Monday through Friday, however, evening and weekend hours will be needed regularly.
  • Must have the ability to regularly lift and carry 25 lbs.

SALARY & BENEFITS

The Florida Democratic Party offers a competitive salary with the opportunity for growth. Yearly salary range for the Graphic Design Associate position is $44,000 - $49,000 commensurate with experience including excellent health, dental, vision and life insurance paid fully by the employer.
