-- The Data Scientist will serve internal data processing and acquisition needs, innovate our voter targeting capabilities and help design and refine our suite of analytics tools and research software. This role will report the Data Director and work closely with the research teams on client deliverables for political, non-profit, and corporate clients. Due to the startup nature of the company, a dedicated self-starter who is eager to learn on the job and grow into a larger role would be ideal for this position. We are looking for someone who can work with staff at all levels while simultaneously managing vendor and client relationships. We work closely with high-profile political organizations and candidates so interest in electoral politics is preferred.
Responsibilities may include but are not limited to:
● Managing data for multiple quantitative studies
● Building, maintaining, and owning scalable voter and non-voter data sources to support various research projects
● Processing raw polling data into toplines and crosstabs for analysts and clients
● Programming and manipulating data in SPSS (or equivalent)
● Preparing survey samples (data cleanup)
● Helping maintain our data collection and reporting infrastructure including our through our proprietary dashboard
● Statistical analysis to test validity (e.g. regression analysis, max diff analysis)
● Designing and building dashboards to aid in visualization of complex datasets
Desired Qualifications:
● Bachelor's Degree in Political Science, Marketing, Mass Communications, Economics, Statistics, or an equivalent concentration required
● Excellent written and oral communication skills
● Equivalent of two years of previous work experience in a related field
● Ability to work with others efficiently in a fast-paced environment
● Ability to work non-traditional hours when the job requires
● Ability to produce a variety of high-quality analysis and presentations as demonstrated by portfolio of work samples
● Strong analytical, problem solving, and decision-making skills
● Experience with SPSS (proficiency preferred) or equivalent statistical software
● Familiarity with VAN, Catalist, or other voterfiles
● Proficiency with Microsoft Office – especially Excel and PowerPoint
● Experience with reporting and dashboarding tools such as Tableau and PowerBI preferred
● Experience with data extraction, and manipulation across various different data sources
● Interest in electoral politics and minority engagement
