We are seeking a Communications Assistant to manage the campaign's social media engagement, email and other public-facing communications, and support the campaign manager in developing and executing overall communications strategy. The Communications Assistant will be responsible for assisting in the monitoring and growing of the campaign's communications and digital presence. They will work closely with the Campaign Manager to elevate the candidate and his message with voters and the media.
Location: Washington, DC
Compensation: $1,000/week
Timeline: Anticipated start date between June 1-15, through November 15, 2020
Reports To: Campaign Manager
Responsibilities:
● Monitor and manage campaign social media accounts, including engaging online supporters
● Write, edit and manage engagement and fundraising emails
● Create and edit content for website and social media
● Manage communications calendar to ensure consistent and timely campaign communications
● Write and edit press releases, statements, media advisories, and event promotional material
● Provide support during online voter engagement events
● Design graphics for multiple platforms including Facebook, Twitter, website, and email
● Help identify earned media opportunities, press interviews, and speaking engagements for the candidate
● Monitor and track news
● Work with Campaign Manager to develop overall communications strategy
● Other duties as assigned
Qualifications:
● A commitment to racial and economic justice
● At least one cycle of campaign experience preferred
● Strong oral and written communication skills
● Experience managing social media accounts
● A self-starter and problem solver
● Ability to work irregular, long hours, including nights and weekends
● Preferred but not required, familiarity with Washington, DC political landscape
