Position Description:


Ed Lazere, a proven candidate with strong relationships, declared his campaign for DC Council as a progressive champion for an open at-large seat. With the Council precariously balanced between people-oriented and corporate-oriented factions, this seat is crucial in securing a majority to focus on DC's growing racial and economic inequities. We are seeking a Communications Director to develop and oversee the campaigns messaging and communications. The Communications Director will be responsible for overall message development, leading rapid response, fundraising communications, and increasing the campaigns digital presence. They will work to elevate the candidate and his message with voters and the media.

 

Location: Washington, DC

 

Compensation: $1,200/week

 

Timeline: Early July through November 15, 2020

 

Reports To: Campaign Manager

 

Responsibilities:

  • Advise the Campaign Manager and Candidate on communications strategy

  • Lead and deepen online engagement across platforms

  • Oversee email engagement and fundraising program

  • Develop and oversee communications calendar

  • Write press releases, statements, media advisories, and op-eds 

  • Provide support during online voter engagement events

  • Identify earned media opportunities, press interviews, and speaking engagements for the Candidate

  • Respond to media inquires

  • Monitor and track news

  • Other duties as assigned

 

Qualifications:

  • A commitment to racial and economic justice

  • At least one cycle of campaign experience preferred

  • Strong oral and written communication skills

  • Experience developing messaging and leading social media engagement

  • A self-starter and problem solver

  • Ability to work irregular, long hours, including nights and weekends

  • Preferred but not required, familiarity with Washington, DC political landscape
