Georgia State Director
The Organization:
Poder Latinx (PL) is dedicated to expanding civic and voter participation so that Latinx leaders rise to be prominent decision makers in our democracy.
Our mission is to build a political wave where the Latinx community plays a key role in the transformation of our country, where immigrants, Latinx and other people of color are decision-makers of our political process
The Position
The Georgia State Director will have overall strategic and operational responsibility for PL staff, programs, expansion, and execution of its mission in his/her/their state. The Georgia State Director will develop deep knowledge of field, core programs, operations, and campaigns plans.
The Georgia State Director will manage program coordinators in regions of the state where PL has a presence. The Georgia State Director will be the point of contact with labor organizations, elected officials, consulate representatives, media and other key institutions. This role entails working collaboratively with C3 and C4 civic participation tables and any other key tables or coalition spaces that support the advancement of PL mission.
The Georgia State Director will be a relentless advocate for program initiatives and the overall mission of PL.
The Georgia State Director will be responsible for fundraising for programming and staffing, budgeting for and managing the operational aspects of the day to day office.
Primary Duties and Responsibilities
Leadership & Management:
Ensure ongoing local programmatic excellence, rigorous program evaluation, and consistent quality of finance and administration, fundraising, communications, and systems; recommend timelines and resources needed to achieve the strategic goals.
Instill a sense of financial accountability among team members by modeling tight financial oversight of the organization.
Actively engage and energize PL volunteers, partnering organizations, and funders;
Attract, lead, develop, coach, and retain high-performance upper management team members, empowering them to elevate their level of responsibility, span of control and performance.
Provide leadership in development of inter-team communication and cohesiveness, sustaining culture and supporting staff during organizational growth.
Develop and implement training programs and retreats to expand the capacity of all staff.
Ensure effective systems to track scaling progress, and regularly evaluate program components, so as to measure successes that can be effectively communicated to the advisory board, funders, and other constituents
Planning & New operations:
Design the state expansion to key urban centers and complete the strategic business planning process for the program expansion into targeted new areas
Begin to build partnerships in new areas, establishing relationships with the funders and political and community leaders at each expansion site.
Be an external local and national presence that helps establish, publishes and communicates the Latino agenda as well as PL's program results
Financial, Community Relations & Communications:
Prepare and submit an annual operational budget, manage effectively within this budget, and report accurately on progress made and challenges encountered.
Ensure the continued financial viability of PL's operational units through sound fiscal management
Expand local revenue generating and fundraising activities to support existing program operations and regional expansion
Deepen and refine all aspects of communications—from web presence and all new media to stronger partnerships with traditional media, particularly Spanish language media to both create a stronger brand and promote PL's civic participation agenda
Publicly represent PL with the media and external constituency groups, including community, governmental, and private organizations and build excitement for PL's mission.
Qualifications
The Georgia State Director will be thoroughly committed to PL's mission. All candidates should have proven leadership, coaching and relationship management experience. Concrete demonstrable experience and other qualifications include:
At least 3 years of senior management experience. Preference given to candidates that have managed electoral staff or community organizing staff.
Knowledge and management principles involved in strategic planning, resource allocation, human resources modeling, leadership technique, and coordination of people and resources.
Knowledge of principles and procedures for personnel recruitment, selection, training, compensation and benefits, labor relations and personnel information systems
Knowledge of US politics and civic engagement trends, methods and strategies
Knowledge of community organizing, membership building, and leadership development
Track record of effectively leading and regionally and/or nationally scaling a performance- and outcomes-based organization and staff
Ability to point to specific examples of having developed and operationalized strategies that have taken an organization to the next stage of growth
Unwavering commitment to quality programs and data-driven program evaluation
Excellence in organizational management with the ability to coach staff, manage, and develop high-performance teams, set and achieve strategic objectives, and manage a budget
Strong organizing, public relations, and fundraising experience with the ability to engage a wide range of stakeholders and cultures
Strong written and verbal communication skills; a persuasive and passionate communicator with excellent interpersonal and multidisciplinary project skills
Ability to work effectively in collaboration with diverse groups of people
Passion, idealism, integrity, positive attitude, mission-driven, and self-directed
Knowledge of principles and methods for curriculum and training design, teaching and instruction for individuals and groups, and the measurement of training effects.
Salary range is $70,000 - $85,000 depending on experience. Benefits include paid leave, sick, vacation, generous health benefits.
