Job Description: LD-6 Communications Manager
THE ROLE: This is a brand-new role centered on LD-6, which includes Flagstaff, Sedona, Payson, Pine, Williams, Holbrook, and the Verde Valley. In this role, you'll take responsibility for managing Progress Arizona's communications and digital work in LD-6 and northern Arizona more broadly, including press outreach, opinion writing, emails, and digital ads. You'll need relationships with local organizations and community leaders and an understanding of the issues and campaigns that matter to people across the district and northern Arizona more broadly.
Responsibilities:
- Draft and pitch op-eds
- Recruit and coach volunteers to write letters to the editor, op-eds and blog posts
- Recruit volunteers to appear in short videos and train them on story-telling skills
- Pitch stories to local, state and national media
- Write email alerts, text alerts and blog posts
- Create and run digital ads
- Other duties as needed
Required qualifications:
- Skilled writer able to translate complicated topics into clear, concise and vivid language. The ability to write well is critical to success in this position.
- Solid strategic thinker with significant experience in community organizing, issue advocacy or electoral campaigns
- Meaningful community relationships in and personal connection to at least one city or region within LD-6
Optional but helpful:
- Community relationships across LD-6
- Graphic design skills
- Social media management skills
- Videography skills
Salary will be variable depending on experience, beginning at $48,000 a year. Includes paid sick, vacation and personal time, health insurance, life insurance and 401(k).
This is a full-time, salaried position guaranteed through summer 2021, with possibility of extension.
