Summary

American Progress is seeking a highly motivated and organized professional with a strong advocacy and organizing background, plus an understanding of strategic communications, to serve as the Campaign Associate/Manager for the Gun Violence Prevention team.

The Campaign Associate/Manager will work with the Director of Advocacy to develop and execute national, state, and local strategies and campaigns to further American Progress' gun violence prevention policy goals. The Campaign Associate/Manager will focus on helping coordinate a nationwide network of gun violence prevention organizations and advocates, as well as working with external stakeholders and state and local coalitions to assist in grassroots and grasstops organizing within a wide variety of constituencies to support gun violence prevention advocacy efforts. The Campaign Associate/Manager will also coordinate with other internal teams at American Progress, including the CAP Action War Room, Government Affairs, Communications, and Generation Progress.

Responsibilities:

  • Develop and maintain relationships with national, state, and local gun violence prevention organizations.
  • Assist in the planning and coordination of meetings, events, rallies, conferences, and trainings.
  • Provide technical assistance to state and local partners through one-on-one coaching and developing tools for effective grassroots organizing and advocacy.
  • Work with the Director of Advocacy to develop and implement training with local and state coalitions and advocates to engage, organize, and mobilize local grassroots volunteers to support the successful implementation of local and state policy campaigns.
  • Assist in the development of local and state-based advocacy campaigns and digital media strategies for advocacy efforts.
  • Develop toolkits, talking points, videos, social media content, and other advocacy materials.
  • Perform regular analysis of political and social media landscapes and identify opportunities for progressive advocacy.
  • Work with the Director of Advocacy to create and implement strategic advocacy plans for the Gun Violence Prevention team's overall work and specific campaigns and products.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Requirements and qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree or the equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Three years for the Campaign Associate level, or four years for the Campaign Manager level, of work experience in organizing, campaigns, advocacy, or related fields.
  • Exceptional attention to detail and organizational skills.
  • Highly creative, with excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to work well with external partners.
  • Experience with gun violence prevention is preferred.
  • Ability to learn new policy issues quickly.
  • Ability to work well within a team under tight deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
  • Ability to initiate projects and balance multiple projects at once.
  • Ability to travel.
  • Commitment to the organization's mission and goals.

This position is part of a bargaining unit represented by IFPTE Local 70. This position is budgeted for $50,000 for the Campaign Associate position or $56,000 for the Campaign Manager position.
