Community Justice Action Fund Communications Manager
POSITION TITLE: Communications Manager
REPORTS DIRECTLY TO: Executive Director
WORK SCHEDULE: Full-time
CLASSIFICATION: Exempt Employee
SALARY: 55,000-60,000
LOCATION: Virtual, with preference for applicants in ET/CT time zones
The Communications Manager creates strategic, holistic communications plans and places a heavy emphasis on brand management to consistently articulate Community Justice Action Fund's mission to end violence and create community safety. This role is responsible for managing all communications activities.
Responsibilities:
- Create and implement a dynamic earned and digital communications plan for CJAF
- Represent core values of CJAF through creative messaging, collateral, and campaigns.
- Work with the staff and board to recognize internal and external communications opportunities and solutions, and define and execute appropriate strategies to support them.
- Liaise with all national and local media, prepare talking points, speeches, presentations and other supporting material as needed.
- Manage media contacts and press placement
- Diversify CJAF's creative content portfolio through creation and execution of new video and film projects.
- Advise on the generation and dissemination of online content that engages audiences across platforms and leads to measurable action.
- Manage the development, distribution, and maintenance of all collateral including, but not limited to, press releases, social media content, newsletters, brochures, and CJAF's website.
- Recruit and manage a communications support team and contractors to support the development and execution of the communications strategy.
- Communicate clearly with communications and social media teams on project objectives and deliverables.
- Ensure visual communication and brand standards are met.
- Collaborate with other CJAF's team members on projects, as needed.
Qualifications
- Strong written and verbal communication skills
- 4-5 years experience in a communications role, preferably in the nonprofit/advocacy sector
- Experience managing and executing across different media platforms
- Willing to execute day-to-day tasks and work independently
- Capable leader, manager and coach for board, intern or volunteer talent
- Good entrepreneurial work ethic and a desire to "get the job done"
