Media Relations and Communications Internship

Northern Starr Strategies has an opening for a Media Relations and Communications Internship. This internship offers the opportunity to experience the field of political communications, with opportunities to draft press releases, help draft op-eds, build relationships with TV producers and bookers. The intern will also get to learn how to use classic campaign software like MailChimp, as well as media monitoring software like CriticalMention.

With clients across the country, we help shape public opinion and perception for political campaigns, causes, and companies all over the country. Whether it's crisis management, media training, or messaging, Northern Starr Strategies is a leader in the public relations industry. We work with a large network of high-level political operators and consultants to help our clients achieve their political and communications goals.

Desired Qualifications:

0-2 years political campaign, organizing, or writing experience
Deep knowledge of politics and media
High School Diploma, Some College preferred
Experience using political software like NGPVAN, MailChimp preferred
Writing experience
Sense of humor!

Position Summary:

Northern Starr Strategies
Media Relations and Communications Internship Position 

The Media Relations and Communications Intern plays a supportive role in research, media booking, communications, and more as assigned. Daily duties can include, but are not limited to:

Pitching interviewees
Drafting and brainstorming pitches for NSS clients
Researching contact emails for podcast, radio, online, and television news outlets
Formatting daily Mailchimp availability updates
Drafting and editing press releases on behalf of NSS clients
Social media management
Drafting and sending out social media posts
Tracking engagement for topics/posts of interest
Building and cultivating followers for accounts under management
Critical Mention research
Finding and sharing clips of client interviews using Critical Mention's search feature

Projects evolve over time, though the general skills required in terms of writing and research remain the same. Hours are very flexible.
