JOB DESCRIPTION:  VA High School Program Coordinator
Type:  Full-time 

Location:  Annandale, Virginia (not metro accessible)

Area of Focus: Education, Youth Development
Salary: $35,000 per year, plus benefits

Position Description: The VA High School Program Coordinator will be part of a dynamic and committed team working to provide new opportunities for low-income and underserved Asian Pacific American youth. The VA High School Program Coordinator will develop and implement afterschool programming, weekend field trips and events, and summer programming focused on helping youth grow in AALEAD's three outcome areas: Educational Empowerment, Leadership, and Identity. The ideal candidate for this position will possess a passion for positive youth development and working directly with young people, be skilled in building successful relationships, and have strong task management skills.


The VA High School Program Coordinator is responsible for the following duties:

  • Coordinate after school and summer programming for Fairfax County high school youth

  • Develop and implement curriculum focused on helping youth grow in AALEAD's 3 outcome areas: educational empowerment, identity development, and leadership opportunities

  • Lead the HS Youth Allies Program component and collaborate with the MS Program Coordinator to provide meaningful leadership opportunities to HS 

  • Conduct afterschool and summer programming serving middle/high school youth and engage youth in all team initiatives and regional events

  • Recruit youth and reach participation targets for middle/high school afterschool & summer programs

  • Support Youth Council programming for Youth Participatory Action Research Project and Community Day

  • Provide college access support for high school juniors and seniors

  • Manage community and school partner relationships including direct communication with counselors and administrators

  • Develop relationships with other community organizations and individuals to provide new opportunities and resources for youth 

  • Support in recruitment and placement of volunteers, mentor pair matches, and lead mentor relationship initiation 

  • Supervise youth and volunteers as part of the Youth Allies program & tutoring program 

  • Develop relationships with youth parents and families

  • Facilitate orientation and training for mentors and volunteers 

  • Monitor ongoing mentor-mentee relationships and provide continuous support to matches

  • Track program and volunteer data and maintain program organization & documentation

  • Track demographic and attendance data for afterschool programs in AALEAD's performance management database, maintain program documentation, and achieve AALEAD and grant-required goals

  • Provide Monthly/ Quarterly grant reporting data for Program Manager

  • Manage a program budget, and coordinate logistics of program activities, events and field trips 

  • Support at regional programmatic events and assist with additional tasks as needed


Qualifications: 

  • BA/BS in education, social work, liberal arts, or related field

  • Direct experience working with youth or teaching

  • Experience recruiting and managing volunteers 

  • Organized and attentive to details

  • Solid oral and written communication skills (public speaking experience preferred)

  • Sensitivity to the needs of immigrant children and families

  • Ability to work Monday-Friday schedule; flexibility to work some weekends, evenings, and holidays

  • Fluency in any Asian language is strongly preferred

A Note On Hiring and Employment During Covid-19 

AALEAD staff have been working hard to continue serving and supporting AALEAD youth during the ongoing health crisis and related social distancing and school closures. AALEAD follows the COVID-19 guidance of state, county, and school districts regarding social distancing and in-person operations. Formerly, AALEAD accomplished administrative and program roles on-site through face-to-face interaction. AALEAD has moved all operations, including youth programming, to distance and digital formats. At this time and until further notice AALEAD employees accomplish their work remotely. For the VA High School Program Coordinator position, all interviews, new employee onboarding, administrative tasks, and youth programming will be accomplished remotely and utilizing digital tools. 

Job responsibilities for the VA High School Program Coordinator role will be tailored to meet the need for social distancing between staff and youth. The timeline for remote work and adjusted responsibilities will align with state and district school guidance. Hiring for this role aligns with the start of afterschool programming and ongoing professional development. Adjusted skills and position responsibilities include: 

  • Staff must have the ability to work remotely including reliable internet connection; computer, work phone, and other accessories can be provided by AALEAD for completion of work-related tasks

JOB DESCRIPTION:  DC Middle School and Peer Mentorship Program Coordinator

Type:  Full-time
Location:  Washington, D.C. 

Area of Focus: Education, Youth Development
Salary: $35,000 per year, plus benefits 

Position Description: The DC Middle School and Peer Mentorship Program Coordinator will be part of a dynamic and committed team working to provide new opportunities for low-income and underserved Asian Pacific American youth in Washington, DC. The DC Middle School and Peer Mentorship Program Coordinator will develop curriculum and implement Out-of-School Time programming for middle school youth. Programs will be focused on helping youth grow in AALEAD's three outcome areas: Educational Empowerment, Leadership, and Identity.  The ideal candidate for this position will possess a passion for positive youth development and working directly with young people, be skilled in building successful relationships, and have strong task management skills.   


The DC Middle School duties and responsibilities:

  • Conduct middle school, high school, and summer programming in community based sites located in the District of Columbia 

  • Develop and implement culturally responsive curriculum focused on helping youth grow in AALEAD's three outcome areas: educational empowerment, identity development, and leadership opportunities 

  • Support in the recruitment of youth and reach participation targets for middle after school & summer programs

  • Develop and maintain professional, supportive, trusting relationships with youth from after school and summer program sites

  • Facilitate space for weekly homework and tutoring sessions for middle school youth

  • Provide transition support for middle school youth transitioning to high school

  • Support in community and school partner relationships including direct communication with counselors and administrators

  • Track demographic and attendance data in AALEAD's performance management database, maintain program documentation, and achieve AALEAD and grant-required goals

  • Provide Monthly/Quarterly grant reporting data for Program Manager

  • Support at regional programmatic events and assist with additional tasks as needed


Mentorship Duties and Responsibilities: 

  • Lead the MS Youth Allies Program component and collaborate with the HS Program Coordinator to provide Peer-Peer mentoring program support to MS youth

  • In collaboration with the High School Program Coordinator, develop and facilitate monthly training sessions and set goals for high school allies

  • Lead the successful implementation of AALEAD's Mentoring Program including the recruitment, screening, training, matching, monitoring, supporting, and closing of mentor and mentee pairs.

  • Support management of recruitment efforts of mentors and mentees and develop and maintain strategic partnerships with key organizations and individuals to recruit a pool of dedicated mentors and access resources for youth.

  • Conduct mentee recruitment efforts with families, at schools and community events, and within the community.

  • Create mentor pair matches and lead mentor relationship initiation.

  • Monitor on-going peer-to-peer mentorship relationships and provide continuous one-on-one support.

  • Support mentor mentee relationship building through organizing events and outings and providing opportunities to engage in AALEAD's outcome areas of Educational Empowerment, Identity Development, and Leadership

  • Ensure compliance with grant requirements including necessary clearances, documentation, and data reporting.


Qualifications:
