JOB POSTING: DIRECTOR OF HUMAN RESOURCES
General Description
The Ohio Environmental Council ("OEC") seeks candidates for its new Director of Human Resources position. The OEC is searching for a Human Resources professional with experience in both collective bargaining to serve a workforce represented by a labor union, as well as experience advancing diversity, equity and inclusion goals.
Job Responsibilities & Performance Expectations
Based in Columbus and reporting to the OEC General Counsel, the Human Resources Director will manage the implementation of our recently signed collective bargaining agreement, and provide the necessary support to OEC staff pertaining to employee benefits, employee training, and employee evaluations. Additionally, the Director of Human Resources will work closely with OEC Leadership, OEC staff committees, and its Board of Directors to set and achieve its goals on racial justice and equity, organizational culture, and professional development, to ultimately achieve the organization's strategic plan goals.
The Director's daily responsibilities will also include:
- Overseeing the staffing process: including recruiting, interviewing, hiring, onboarding, and offboarding;
- Designing and managing decision systems to assist personnel allocation and prioritization within the organization;
- Monitoring and ensuring compliance with federal, state, and local employment laws, regulations, and recommended best practices;
- Managing professional development and organizational training;
- Updating and maintaining personnel and organizational policies;
- Managing employee compensation and benefits;
- Identifying employee issues and conflicts and bringing them to resolution; and
- Performing other related duties as required and assigned.
Qualifications
- Necessary Work Experience: At least 3 years of experience in Human Resources, including experience in Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion. Experience in the administration of benefits and compensation programs and other Human Resources programs. General knowledge of various employment laws and practices. Prior experience working with labor unions and experience in collective bargaining.
- Recommended Skills: Well-organized; hard-working; thorough & detail-oriented; able to manage multiple tasks at once, and work across departments to achieve shared goals; thrives in a fast-paced campaign environment; has a professional demeanor. Evidence of the practice of a high level of confidentiality and trust building. General knowledge of employment law, compensation practices, employee relations, safety, training, and labor relations.
- Required Cultural Competence: Experience with and an understanding of the importance of recruiting a rich mix of candidates from varying backgrounds and experiences. Furthermore, a demonstration of emotional intelligence that shows an awareness of, control, and expression of one's emotions, and ability to handle interpersonal relationships with grace and empathy.
The selection committee will further consider if the candidate supports the mission of the organization and possesses a commitment to working for social justice. Nonprofit or advocacy experience is a plus. The Director must be able to work some evenings and weekends, and be willing to travel throughout Ohio and occasionally out of state.
Compensation
The salary range for the position is $53,460 – $65,340. Excellent benefits include employer-paid health, vision, dental, and life insurance; flexible and dependent care spending account; generous paid time off; paid parental leave; and employer-matched retirement fund.
